Do you give DC all organic? What about table foods?

We try to stay pretty much organic, low sugar, whole wheat because that's just how we eat.  I don't want her to eat the daycare food because they don't follow these guidelines- but they keep giving her the fruit out of a can at lunch and breakfast.

I've said something twice now and brought fresh fruit this morning- normally she gets organic puree.

But is anyone else as anal as I am?  They kind of looked at me like I have two heads...

I just don't think fruit in a can is healthy for a kid.  There is tons of sugar in that.  I get that it's much easier though.

  • I'm that anal, but DD isn't in daycare, so my craziness is hidden.  I actually think that as long as you bring the food, they shouldn't/can't say anything.  It's healthier to eat homemade, or at least pure, organic food.  Anal or not, it's what we think is healthiest.

  • Nope.?

She eats organic, some non organic. Its really not a big deal. I never want to have the kind of kid who goes to someone's house at lunch and says "is this organic? Was this grown in Canada at a local farm? Oh i'm sorry I just can't eat it."

Hilarious. I dont' want that kid. Ick. ?

  • HA!  My kid could be the one at the bday party with the bag of carrot sticks.  :P

No- I'm not quite that anal and will definitely allow for those instances at other people's houses...moderation is fine.. I will gladly hide my anal organic craziness from neigbors.   I give her sugar occasionally so it's not a shock later on.

But everyday at daycare I don't want her loaded up on sugar.

  • I feed DD much more healthy than I eat, but I do plan on making changes to my own diet as she gets older so that we are all being healthy. I try to do more organic now, but she still gets things that aren't. I can't afford to do all organic, but her jar food is b/c I love the EB food. Cheerios, no. I do understand about wanting daycare to feed her what you bring. Unfortunately, our daycare doesn't allow you to bring in food, so once she eats table food she has to eat what they serve. I'm not looking forward to it, but she'll live.

Pretty much the same thing.  She gets some organic stuff and some non-organic. I make most of her food.

I'm having issues letting go at daycare as well.  I want her to have some table foods at daycare, but I don't have the time to prepare her stuff to bring in.  But their fruits and veggies are canned.  I really would rather her have fresh or frozen.  But when she moves up to the next room they really don't want you bringing in different foods so she'll be eating their food in a few months anyways.  DD won't eat frozen veggies but will eat the canned ones at daycare so I tell myself at least she's getting some veggies!  DH says to just let it go and that a little bit in a day isn't a big deal.

But I'd be annoyed if I brought stuff in and daycare wasn't using it.

  • Yes, I'm that anal for the most part. The only things I fed her so far that aren't organic are things I just haven't been able to find organic, like guavas and malanga and other "exotic" foods. I'm sure that as her palate expands, I'll give her more of a mix of organic and non-organic the way I myself eat, but it's so easy to control what she eats right now, why load her up with extra additives, sugars, etc. before it's unavoidable?
