2nd Trimester

TMI - What are you doing about grooming?

So I've realized the past couple days that shaving my girlie bits is going to become an issue.  I've never waxed before and I'm nervous about starting when I'm PG because who knows how my skin will react, and I'm extra sensitive right now to begin with.  If you don't mind sharing - what are your plans?

Re: TMI - What are you doing about grooming?

  • haha, I've posted about this too. I told DH about the troubles, he didn't understand so I told him, "Imagine trying to shave the back of your balls, you can't see them right, how would you shave them?" He told me he didn't care about the grooming so much, but I do, so far I haven't shaved in over a week, but am tempted to try again today. If no such luck DH said he would do it for me, but that just seems akward, I guess we shall see...

  • Plan A: NOT waxing. No thank you... too much for me.

DH uses his beard trimmer down there. We've never done anything like that before and tried it just last week. He was getting a kick out of it. Turned out okay... I guess. He needs a little bit of practice- but he promised me he'll get the hang of it. Big Smile

  • I wax monthly. I don't think it's that painful, others here will tell you it's absolutely horrible. I think it really depends on who you go to - I'll send you a PM with a rec since it looks like you're quite close to where I go. FWIW, I only started the month before I got my BFP and the first time I went was worse than the times I've gone since getting pg.
  • I haven't done it in a while, I can't see down there anymore Embarrassed

I'd like to get a wax, but I don't really want to do it every couple of weeks until delivery, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do. something needs to be done, though

  • Toward the end I always have DH do the trimming so I am not a nature girl for delivery.  It's no biggie at all for us.

  • Still waxing. Its pretty painful still.
  • Shaving as usual. I shaved all through my last pregnancy with DS - you can't see? Use a mirror.

This is what we do.  With a little practice he'll be prefect at it in no time!

  • I will keep shaving as long as I can and do the upkeep on what I can reach as long as possible by feel and shave. Smile I figure that dh helping shouldn't be awkward because we've had sex numerous times in numerous positions, he's seen it all already, knows the area quite well and come June, any line we may have had in the past will be crossed, so dh is going to help. If dh helping me stay well groomed is awkward, then I can't imagine what delivery would be like.
  • I'm planning on shaving with the help of a mirror...if that doesn't work then I'll think of something.  I don't want to be a hairy monster when the time comes either.  lol
  • This is the exact problem I am having right now.  I'm not sure what to do either!!

  • i have had a couple of questions about this also. i told DH that he would probably most likely have to do it for me.. but i dont think i trust him with a razor that close to my goods... especially if he nicks it.. **ouch**
instead i talked it over with the dr. and he said that most women actually dont do anything.. which in a sence kinda weirds me out.. i cant imagen not doing anything down there. he told me instead of shaving try trimming...  at least with trimming i can trust DH to do it.. dr aslo said i could try to use nair or veet around my bikini line if i was THAT worried about it.

I havent been able to shave since oh idk 22 weeks. im 25 now. so far the trimming thing is going pretty good.. thats what i suggest.

    hope this all helps.
    good luck

  • So I've waxed before....loved the results, but hated the pain.  I'm sure the more you do it, the more accustomed you become to someone ripping out your hair.  To that I say, "no thank you".  I usually shave, but like you said...it's getting really difficult.  My nail lady says she waxes herself.  My bewildered look must have been pretty obvious, so she explained that she stands above a mirror to see what she's doing.  Maybe you could try that.  I still need to give it a shot as well.  Good luck!
  • i havent asked him since BFP but dh likes shaving my legs and girly bits when we shower together so i wont have a problem asking him to once i cant see what im doing

    That's nice of him =)

I honestly wouldn't trust my DH down there with a razor - OUCH!!

  • Gotta admit, most of the time I go au naturel, unless I plan to wear a bathing suit, in which case waxing is a must. It lasts quite a while though, which is good. I am going for my first pg wax tomorrow as we are going on vacation next week. Normally I do this with the help of my little friend, Vitamin I(buprofen). Sadly I will have to use Tylenol, which I doubt will numb much of anything, but it's worth a shot.

I do use numbing cream that I got at the drugstore aftwards; that may be helpful.

    I TOTALLY AGREE!

I just don't get this. I'm a very coordinated person, but holding a mirror, spreading the legs, cream, razor, peering over the belly... it's just too much for me. I can't do it with a mirror.

But then again, I'm a larger girl. I don't have tiny thighs... so- not sure if that has anything to do with anything, but maybe it's easier for thinner girls? idk.

  • I just realized yesterday that I can no longer see to shave.?

I don't know that DH is up to helping. Eeek.?

  • I used to get monthly brazilians but started shaving while pregnant - planning on going back to waxing though. It's just getting too difficult to keep it under control Embarrassed
  • Shaving as long as i can... And if i cant i am sure DH will try to come to the rescue.....lol
  • Thanks for all the responses ladies.  I will def. try out a mirror.  I actually talked to DH about this already and he was fine with the idea of helping, but last night I got nervous when he said "It's just that one little triangle right - I don't get close to anything super important right?"  When I told him there was a little more to it, he suggested I show him once, and then we have my BF shave me once while he watches so that he could see how someone other than me does it... yes DH, let's have a coochy shaving party.  My friend and I are close... but not that close!
  • I just went thru this last night. I have a battery operated trimmer/razor I got at Sephora that works great. So I kind of just blindly did it in the shower. I got most of it, but the sides were hard. It looks pretty uneven, but I dont really care. If I get to the point where I need DH to help, I will let him. Not with a razor though!

I dont mind waxing, but I don't really want to spend the money.

  • I love Nair.  If I can't see down there, it won't be as pretty as usual, but that's not my biggest concern.  If you do it every week, you always manage to catch the areas you missed last week.
  • I shave it, and I am going to try and continue to do so...

  • Well, I'll be the first to say it.

I don't.  And if the doctor is put off by my ungroomed nether regions when I deliver, then he should have thought of that before making his speciality Obstetrics.

  • I'm nervous to let myself so and look like a wild bush lady...so DH will ahve to help. I waxed at 10 weeks and it was pretty painful.  All I know is before I have another kid I will get electrolosis (sp??) so I'll never have to shave again!! FREEDOM!!!!!
  • I usually shave, although I have gone for waxing, which I love the outcome of I find its too much up keep to go every month & I always take a glass of wine & ibuprofen before, which i suppose I cna't do now! I have found its getting more difficult as well. Sh has helped once, last week & it went OK, he just used a trimmer not a razor yet. We have very few boundaries tho & didn't find this weired at all (to add in the past we have tried at home waxing which was BRUTAL would not let him do that again!)

I will go for a wax at about 36-37 weeks I want it very tidy for delivery. As a L&D nurse I strongly suggest SOME type of grooming before delivery, even just trimming. The reason is because its gets pretty nasty durign delivery, there is a lot of mucous & fluid & blood & its really gross when the hair gets all matted. And sorry but I am human, iots gross for the nurse who has to clean you to have to pull chunks of blood out of pubs. Also PP you bleed a lot & you want to keep the area very clean, its just easier when the hair is under control. And if you need stitches its better with shorter hair too.
