Favorite "Cheap" White Wine?

Need some for C's Baptism.  I can list my favorites cheap reds without hesitation :)  but it's been a long time for the whites because I was pregnant last summer.

I think I will say "cheap" = under $8/bottle?

Do you know any of these Bevmo 5 cent sale ones?

Thanks!

Re: Favorite "Cheap" White Wine?

  • PS - I also got an email from Cost Plus - they have 40% over 100 of their white wines.

  • Pepperwood Grove is a pretty good cheapie. I think Safeway might have it on sale for $6-$7.

I'd love for you to list your fave cheap reds since cheap is all my budget allows these days!

  • We super puffy heart the BevMo 5 cent sale!!

From that list, I would go with the Kim Crawford Unoaked Chardonnay.  Nothing fancy, but pretty nice and not super cheap tasting.

  • Thanks!  I've definitely seen the Pepperwood label, but haven't tried it.

My go-to reds grocery store reds or "pounding reds" as S calls them are BV Coastal ($7) and Penfolds Rawson's Retreat Cab or Shiraz-Cab ($8).  I like them because you can drink them straight from the bottle.  There's an Italian red, Masciarelli, that we went nuts for ($7)...I haven't had it in a while, but I might be over it.  And I like Barefoot's Zinfandel ($6).

One of my favorite things to do though is to go to a local wine store and browse their under $10 selections and ask the person.  I've had some really good ones this way, like Masciarelli. When I was 9 months pg, I went in and bought a case - I guess someone was ready for her wine?!  I guess you could do the same at a TJs, but I like to support the smaller stores and they can give really good feedback.  And since they aren't your well-known wines, no one knows what you paid for them if you serve them at a dinner party ;)

    Thanks for the list!

I really should go into our neighborhood wine shops more often. Whomever sold you that case of wine must have been cracking up!

  • I love Meridian Chardonnay, you can get it for $5 a bottle at Costco.
