So I was talking with my parents the other night. I do not discuss names under consideration with my parents because they tend to be pretty judgmental and I just don't want to hear things like "oh, I don't like that" or "why on earth would you choose THAT name?" (which they've said to others mind you). But I was saying that the great name debate is underway with DH and I and that DH keeps nixing the family names I suggest (true). Please insert head to desk immediately after I say this because sure enough, insert the deluge of comments -- "what about Hunter? That's an old family name" (no, I don't like that -- always makes me think the girl should be named Gatherer), "well, whatever you do, don't name him X" and so on. And it picked up again last night!!! "How about Burl?" ("only if his MN will be Ives."), "what about Neil?" ("no, don't like it"). Seriously we are MORE than capable of picking out a name. We even have a short list. But this does not stop the commentary thanks to me and my big mouth.
Re: I know better and yet...
I swore to myself that this time we wouldn't tell the names we were considering. But as soon as I am around people that don't know, I get mind spewage and tell them. We haven't told anyone other than my mom our girl name that we're actually using, but when we told people the name we were considering before and we got really unpleasent responses to it
I told my mom my favorite boy name and she started making fun of it... until I started to cry. She said she was only joking, though, and apologized. It doesn't help that DH ("Douchey Husband") and I still haven't talked about why he refuses to consider my name choices.
That and hormones.
we're doing the same, only two other people know dd's name and they have been told to keep it secret, top secret!!
