What should I expect at my first RE appoint.? SAIF welcome

I have my first RE appointment I will be on my cycle day 10 ,( i think since i haven't flowed yet.) The office already had me fill out a bunch of paper work on medical history as well as my husband. My OB also wrote a letter.

Is there a possibilty that I could do an IUI this month if that's what a need? Also, what cycle day do you have to be in order to  get an HSG.

Sorry for all the questions. Thanks

  • My RE's office typically does HSG's on CD 5-9, but you will see a little variation in that dpending on the office.

I don't know if you could have an IUI this month even if they are able to schedule your HSG the same day, I'd imagine there are a few other things the doctor will go over first.  Have you had CD3 bloodwork done yet, and an SA for your husband?

  • I am so impatient!! I have not have CD3 bw, but my husband has had a SA. He had it back in October and it showed low motility, but the OB said she was not concerned. I am though.

I am the most impatient person you would ever meet. I'm constantly early for everything. The waiting is driving me crazy.

  • I understand being impatient; the waiting is very frustrating.

You will most likely have to have CD3 bloodwork done, then the HSG (these can be done in the same cycle if you can't have it done at your first appointment), and possibly a baseline ultrasound.  At my first appointment, I just had an extensive medical history taken; my doctor wanted all of my test data before discussing possible treatment plants.  They also may ask your husband to redo the SA.

Thank you so much. I just called the office to see if they had anything available sooner and they don't because the doctor will be out of office.

  • I highly doubt the RE will jump right into a cycle.  I'd imagine an HSG (maybe SHG too), SA and any blood testing (maybe?).  W/ IUI you may be on meds (Clomid) which they'll need to start on a fresh cycle.  Good luck at the RE's!

Thank you so much, my OB wants me to still take clomid this month and then go to the RE. I know i was reaching hoping he would jump right into something this cycle.

  • I would imagine your RE will want to do your CD2 testing and HSG before starting anything treatment-wise (IUI, etc).  Obviously, every office / dr is different but I had my first RE appt in the middle of my cycle and the dr basically wanted to start fresh at my next cycle and do CD2 testing (FSH, etc) and then HSG (their practice does it days 5-10).  My dr did create my 1st month plan when I went in the first time but the plan did not 'kick' off until my next cycle started.  Go9od luck.
