Spelling of Rene vs. Renee

Are these pronounced any different from each other? I personally prefer the latter spelling of the two.

WDYT?

Nutmeg, cilantro, sage, mint, thyme... these are a few of my favorite things! Visit The Nest!Visit The Nest! We have four children; one left us too soon.

Re: Spelling of Rene vs. Renee

  • I think they're pronounced the same way. My middle name is Renee and I like it spelled that way. Also think it's more feminine looking than Rene.

  • They are pronounced the same, but in French the extra "e" at the end is for the feminine version (like fiance and fiancee)
  • what about raneigh? LOL

I knew a Rene from Switzerland (I am pretty sure) and he was a guy (Duh, I can't believe I typed that).  I knew a Renee, and I couldn't stand her.  I think that Renee is more feminine, but I do like it.  What middle name would you put with it?

Renee is the feminine form. Rene is the male spelling, usually.

FWIW, though, sometimes Rene is used for a girl and pronounced Ree-Nee, like weenie or meanie. Example, former Penn State girls basketball coach Rene Portland.

  • Ditto PP with the Rene, weenie, meanie.  I like Renee better.
Lilypie Third Birthday tickers Lilypie First Birthday tickers
  • Rene is the male spelling.

Actually, I'm considering using it for the MN.

  • I haven't ever posted on this board, but I had to chime in on this one!  My name is Rene, spelled with one 'e' at the end.  I asked my parents why on earth they spelled it like that, and they just said they preferred it that way, and they liked the uniqueness of it.  I don't mind it, but I actually would prefer it to be spelled 'Renae' due to mine being often mispronounced.  I also just like how it looks with the 'a'.  Most people get that my name is Rene, but I also get 'Ree-nee' or 'Reen'.  It's one of a kind, I guess ;-)
  • I think Renee- Female, Rene- Male
  • My MN is also Renee and I have a little squiggly over my 2nd e. I LOVE it!?
  • Renee is a beautiful name and isn't common. I like it!
  • I like Renee.

  • I think it's pronounced the same way.  My sister spells hers Reine' - I think it's a cool alternative (IMO).

  • when i read Rene~ i read it as Reenie

I def think Renee is better! my best friend's name is Renee with 2 E's and a squiggly over the one E.

  • I wouldnt pronounce them any differently but I would imagine Rene for a boy and Renee for a girl.
