Table food-ers, when did you start feeding lunch meats? We are starting table food with very little guidance from our pedi (really need to change pedis, but that's another topic).
How small do you make the pieces? Do you get fresh or pre-packaged meat? Are any meats off-limits? Can we do smoked varieties? Any favorite brands?
Re: Do you feed lunch meat?
We haven't given DD any meats yet. She's just getting good with finger foods, so we plan to soon.
I would avoid lunch meats - there are too many extra additives in it.
We're going to try oraganic meats.
Look up the meat section in www.wholesomebabyfood.com - it may help.
I've done a little bit here and there. Go with a brand that has no extra sodium, preservatives, hormones added, etc. just as if you were buying free-range chicken or beef.
HA! It's come full circle!
Seriously - I had to do a double take to see which forum I was in. Thought it was 1st tri again. You are totally right though.
Joseph eats what we eat. If we are having lunch meat, he has lunch meat, unless it's too spicy. However, if my husband's buying lunchmeat, it's often a spicy Italian sausage of some kind, so it's kind of rare that he has anything. Maybe some turkey or roast beef.
As a rule, we're more likely to roast a big ham or turkey or some beef and slice it ourself on our deli slicer. We used to own a restaurant and kept the fantabulous slicer, so I feel compelled to use it as much as possible.
I don't have a problem with bologna or pickle and pimento loaf or anything, though. If I was eating some, I'd give him some. Really, there are things I'd much rather see him not eating. Like my husband's shoe. If giving him some bologna gets the dirty shoe away from him, I'm not too proud to use it.
