Babies: 9 - 12 Months

I dunno how SAHMs do it ...

... I mean, I know HOW you do it ... but I don't know how you don't colapse from exhaustion after a week or so.

Seriously, I was up at a quarter 'till 5am this morning, got a 45 minute nap when he went back down for a little bit this morning ... but thats it. Between the laundry, the cooking, the picking up, arranging/preparing a GTG out, trip to the park, constant supervision/entertainment/attention grabing ... I am farking exhausted. I am seriously glad I get to sleep in until 645 tomorrow and go to work :)

Not that I didn't have a blast at home today with the mouse ... he was really good!  I just couldn't do this every.single.day. Hats off to you ladies that do ... for cereal :)

  • Right now with her not moving, it is much easier than my job teaching. I know that will change here once she starts moving..or maybe not. Teaching is soooooo ass-kicking.

  • You got a nap?  Surprise

It is the most exhausting rewarding job I ever had.  Though I have to say working moms deserve kuddos too since you work all day and then come home to all the laundry etc.

  • haha DH had DS on Sunday, and I made him, for once, pack the diaper bag, with toys, food, everything he would need for the afternoon, and at that point he was like wow you do this everyday when you leave the house?! haha it was only 30 min into him being "mr mom" haha.... It's very tiring but also very rewarding. I only try to make sure I have clean clothes, a warm meal and a somewhat picked up house by the time DH gets home. The rest of the day is spent playing with DS.

  • ditto!!

We had a snow day today so I got an unexpected day off to spend with Erica.  It was awesome, but I found myself wondering how to entertain her and how to get things done.  It made me a little nervous for the summer when I'll have her all day everyday!

  • Hey - can you send this to my DH ;-)  The other night I almost punched him.  Lately, he has gotten into the habit of leaving his dirty dishes around and otherwise not helping ONE BIT around the house - which is NOT what it was like before baby.  Anyway - the other night we were playing Wii and we were playing for the dirty dishes - I said, what is the difference I put them away all the time anyway.  He replies by saying "hey, I am out of the house working all day"....Ooooooooooh - I wanted to strangle him!

Truth be told however, I think for all of us - working or not working - we're all amazing.  I honestly can't imagine getting up at 6:00 in the morning to get ready to drive to work, work, come home and take care of a child after said child has been up all night because s/he is teething and won't get a wink of sleep.  That is why we are women...we handle it better ;-)

  • funny - I'm still at home because we get a one year maternity leave here in Canada, but I don't understand how working moms do it.  I don't understand how someone works all day, and still gets time to be with their baby and still gets everything done around home.

I'm supposed to go back to work in September, but am seriously considering being a SAHM because I just don't see how we can make it work if I go back.

I agree. If (ugh) I ever find another job I'll be working outside the home, and that thought terrifies me. I don't know how working moms get everything done - they have my admiration!

  • it is an exhausting day, but it's rewarding. i can't remember the last timei got a nap though! she only naps 1/2 hour twice a day! i can barely wash bottles and clean up from mealtimes then!
  • It's hard (at least my LO sleeps till 7am - most of the time anyway! And he's not too mobile yet either!) but it's much better than any other job I've had! ?At least I know all the exhaustion, long hours, frustration, tears goes into this little person I love more than anything else on the planet (sorry DH!). ?When I was at work I would work so hard and then wonder why because I always hated the companies and bosses I worked for!!

I'm looking forward to working again - but for now I'm so happy I can SAH...

Plus, it sounds like you had a pretty busy day - luckily I don't do laundry/clean/cook every single day so it's manageable!!?

  • Yes it is the most exhausting rewarding job I ever had, but like the others posted, I am not sure how you working moms seriously do it.  Get everything, done, spend time with the fam, up all night and then work all day.  I give my hats off to you working mommas!

  • DS doesn't get up until 7:30, that's how I do it :)

  • Agreed. Chasing after a baby all day is very tiring. Whenever I SAH with DD I think that I could never do it all day. But then at work all day all I want to do is go home and be with her. You can't win.

  • All I have to say is that it's a hell of a lot easier being home with my son than being a teacher in a preschool class room!!!!  But I do have a really easy baby, he STTN, He never cries, he loves to play and nap for 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon!!!  I can't complain!!

  • That's it....SAHM and working moms all rock! :)

DD doesn't napfor more than 20 minutes at a time during the day, but she does sleep all night from 9:30pm - 9am.....so I guess i can't complain :)

also, thanks for saying it, Totty.  It's nice to hear.

  • It is tough, I agree.  I did it this summer and ran back to work in September.

  • I think you adapt.  Just like any other job.  Sure the first few weeks of throwing ups boxes on a truck are hard and you can hardly move your arms when you are done with work, but eventually you get used to it.  I figure it's like this.  For what it's worth, I get sheer exhausted when  I have a whole day of Ollie with no nick...but I still plan to do it full time in September.  However nick is going out of town for the week for work on Sunday and I'm NOT looking forward to that.
