WWYD? (craigslist related)

I've been trying to sell our old IKEA media center for at least 3 weeks now, and it is taking up space in our living room (we don't have a garage or basement or anything where we can store it). It's big, and in good condition, so I originally priced it at $75, then dropped it to $65. I finally have someone interested in it, and they're offering $40 and saying that's all they have. How much do I try to negotiate? I really want this thing out of my house, but I was hoping for more $$ to defray the cost of the new entertainment center. I don't know how many more interested people I'll get - this may be my last chance. WWYD?

  • I'd sell it for $40, just b/c you haven't had other interest.

  • If you really need it gone I would take the $. Times are tough for everyone. I just sold stuff on craigslist a few months back and I def needed to negotiate. But I swear by that site-I found my office space on it, temp help etc...but nothing kinky :)
  • I would tell them $55 is the lowest you can go! Do you have a pic on there. THat might help.
  • thanks for your input! I'm using the "I'm checking with my husband" excuse while I think about it. Maybe I'll try for $45 or 50, just on principal. After all, we sold the 2 matching CD towers for $30!

  • I'd say $45-50 but just for the principal.

You lowered your price...so s/he should re-adjust his price slightly...even if its $5.  I know the going is tough...but seriously....would the person have said "im really rich and I actually give you 100 for it?"  If they truly have no money....then they wouldnt be shopping for an entertainment center.

I see your point in wanting to get rid of it though.

  • Get it the heck out of there. I figure when I sell stuff on Craig's List or have a garage sale all of that money is gravey. Make sure your DH is home when the person picks it up. It might be better to move it out in front of the house before they show up to get it. Ask for cash.

  • I would go back and lower the price a touch more before accepting such a big difference, telling them you would get back to them if no one else was interested.  I think $60 sounds scary to people, but $50 sounds doable.
