Hello all...
I love the idea of naming a child for him/herself and not in honor of some long-dead relative. But... I've always loved a few names from my family tree. (NOT Homer or Octavia.. or most of my other family/hillbillys from the Ozarks!)
What do you think of Leta? (pronounced LEE-ta) Either as fn or mn. That was my beloved grandmother's name. I also like Amelia, but it's getting kinda trendy. DH likes Mathilda. That, too, is getting trendy. Other names out there are Lydia or Irene.
We're pretty traditional types with a very German sounding last name that begins with S. Nothing cutesy that sounds dumb when she's 50 years old.

Hmm. I didn't think that. I think it would be pronounced that way if it had 2 t's. But I don't know!

I agree with the other poster that said they like Lydia better.
I think Leta/Lita can be a nickname for Adelita (German name that means noble), Angelita, Alita (Hebrew name), or Lolita.
I actually like Adelita and Alita, even though they are very different.
leta ford, "kiss me deadly". 80s hair rock, anyone?
i love lydia.
I think Leta sounds too harsh or something... can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe the rocker image. Anyway, Amelia or Lydia are both really cute.
Another Dooce fan here... I like Leta and had never heard of it before I started reading the blog. Heather is 24 weeks pregnant with another girl... interested in seeing what the new ones name will be.
this is what I thought of first!
NMS!
This is my grandmother's name. Sounds too Memere to me.
