My baby is starting to take prevacid.(sad I know but her reflux was not letting her sleep). Anyway, we have to dissolve it in a syringe with water and then give it to her. I can't seem to get the pill to totally dissolve and there's a lot left in the syringe when she's finished. Does anyone else have issues with this?
TIA
Re: Any prevacid babies out there?
We used to have ours compounded. (Where it was turned into liquid for us and we used the syringe to put in his mouth - almost like an antibiotic type liquid.) I know Buffalo Pharmacy does it and maybe a few others...but no one like a Walgreens or CVS will do it, they don't have the tools. It's usually the independent ones.
It was great and it was much easier to give it to him and it made sure all the medicine was given. It doesn't cost anymore then the pills (at least it didn't at the time) Good luck!
we just took dd off of prevacid about a month ago. we would put the tablet in the syringe and then suck up the water into it. we'd cover the tip and shake it a little so that it would dissolve and then give it to dd. sometimes we'd be left with a little in the syringe, so we'd just suck up a little more water and try again.
sorry you're having to give it to her. hope she outgrows it soon!
It's nice to hear that I'm not the only one having issues with that darn syringe. I thought maybe it was just me
...
bpaullo: The coupon would be great! I'm hoping to make it to the get together this sunday. will u be there?
I'll definately will look into that compounding thing. I purchased the medicine at CVS so I'm going to try one of the private pharmicies...
Thanks so much for the help!!!
i'm not sure what side of town you're in, but briargrove pharmacy also does compounding. they are on san felipe, near s. voss
I followed this advice until my DS got to where he could chew it himself. It worked great for us! I had the same problems with it dissolving and not getting all of it in him...it's not you.
we plan to come if it's not nap time... we may just be a little late....
I never got all the little bits in either, but what I did get into him worked. I just disolved it in a little 1/4 measuring cup or a ramekin and drew up and give him little amounts at a time being sure to draw up the grains as I went.
In addition we did have constipation problems as a result of (I suspect) too little stomach acid being produced and thus altering the normal balance in the gut. This continued long after he was on them. We started bio gaia probiotic drops and and he is good as new. Any pharmacy can have them in stock in two days.
To get him off the meds we also tried an alternative med free treatment that cured him. I know it has worked for other reflux babies as well. Let me know if you'd like the info.
Lastly, I feel your pain and I hope you can both find relief soon.
