When you started ferber did you switch around your DC schedule? for example give them a bath after their last nurse/bottle so they didn't fall asleep to that? Did you push their bedtime back for good as well?
my problem w/dd isn't that she won't go to sleep but it's that she won't stay asleep she usually wakes 3 hours after falling asleep and won't got back to sleep for 1.5-2.5 hours later. i know she isn't hungry b/c if i bring her into bed with me or pick her up and rock her she will stop crying and fall asleep. the problem with rocking is as soon as i lay her down her eyes pop right back open!
her naps are also horrible she will only nap 25-30 mins in her crib. Did you do ferber with naps too or wait until nigh time was more established??
i've been wanting to do ferber for a while but DD was sick for a while and is now finally feeling better. so i think we are going to start this weekend.
sorry that was long but i am at my wits end! ?
Re: Ferber moms help!
I didn't change the order of things, I just made sure that he didn't fall asleep at the breast. I would talk to him or sing to him to make sure. Our problem was night wakings also, and I'll be honest, it didn't work that well when I was still doing one feeding. Well, it was fine if he only woke up the once, but if he woke up before then I think the mixed messages just made it worse. Now that I'm not feeding him at night anymore we re-Ferbered and it is soooooooooo much better. I put him down at 7:45 last night and he didn't cry (a few peeps I don't count) until 6:20am! Hooray! It's a miracle!
I also do naps, and I wait until he is good and tired before I put him down. I know that doesn't work for a lot of babies (they get overtired and then won't sleep I guess) but it works for DS. The more tired the better. He still sometimes only sleeps for 30 minutes, but sometimes over an hour. You'll have to see what works for your DD. I would say be consistent and do the same thing for each sleep period.
We still do everything the same, he gets his bath and then his bottle but he doesn't fall asleep with the bottle. Then we lay him down, we did try reading a book after the bottle and then putting him down and that worked too.
We had the same problem with DS he woke several times each night. We have not done naps yet, we just started ferber on Sat. But it is going very well so far, he is waking up once still for a diaper change and it is a little challenging to get him back to sleep after that.
First, when we started progressive waiting we kept his nighttime routine the same. Once we made it through the first week and he was going down with a little fussing or none at all, we changed the routine from bath, book, feed to feed, bath, book. But his book says you can do either, since you're establishing new routines anyway.
We did Ferber for naps and bedtime... but naps suck. He is awesome at bedtime, naps not so much. We're still working on a plan for that.
DS's problem was also night wakings, he was up 5x per night. Now, he's either STTN 7-7 or up once at 3 AM. good luck!
