Cloth Diapers

Anyone thinking about cloth diapers? I have been seriously considering it lately and checked-out the eco-friendly board as well.... I'm kind of excited about the prospect!

Re: Cloth Diapers

  • Yes, I'm totally on board for cloth diapers. I just need to figure out where to get them, which ones to get and all of those "minor" details...

  • We're using Bum Genius All-in-Ones.  I've heard good things about them from several friends and from friends-of-friends and we ordered 1 to play around with and we like how easy AND cute it is!
  • Yes, all the way. We registered for some from Target, but BRU has them online as well. The EFF board has a LOT of info on them and where to get them. Unless you live in a big city or just want to use basic prefolds (old school cloth that need pins) you'll probably have to get them online.?

  • I was considering using them, but only if I could use a diaper service because I know me and I know I wouldn't put up with laundering them myself.  Unfortunately my area doesn't have a service.  If you are laundering them yourself there's plenty of places on the internet and BRU even has some for you to buy.
  • I use cloth diapers with my DD.  I bought the bum Genius 3.0- they are a kind of pocket diaper. I bought about 15.  They last up to 25 pounds...but my little heffer is 21 pounds and they are little too snug now.

If you want more info...check out www.zannadu.com Joanne can help you with all of your questions.  Also, if you like in Mass-there is a class on cloth diapering.  You can find the info on the zannadu website.  I have ordered off the Zannadu website and amazon.  GL

  • people were talking about CDs earlier, here were their suggestions...

  • We are going to be a cloth diaper family too. I've been doing a ton of research on this and it is overwhelming. Many CD moms suggest getting a 'sampler pack' so you can try out many different combos (prefolds or contours + covers, all in ones, pocket diapers, etc.). Jillian's Drawers offers a sampler pack. I've also found that Cotton Babies has a ton of good info and free shipping on orders over $75.

  • I think it's so cool that lots of people are doing cloths! I do live in a bigger city (Columbus, OH) and was able to go to a small store today that carries all of the brands that people have been talking about online, which was cool. They are really cute, and even if we use the more expensive ones, I think we will still save!

I think we will start with the pre-fold diapers and covers and work our way up, mainly because of cost. They even had a little sprayer that you could hook up to the toilet for when the baby gets bigger.... it's come a long way since my parents did it! I talked to my mom about it and she was still a little leery of not soaking them in a wetpail, but other than that, she thought it was pretty cool too.

  • check out www.sunshinediapers.com they've got a lot of information and offer a "Test Drive" pack for newborns which we're definitely going to try out.
  • Yes we are seriously considering it as well, I sent DH a few emails with links to look over later tonight after his board meeting.
  • We plan on CD and I am really excited about it.  I plan on getting the pre-folds w/ Thirsties covers when the baby is a newborn and then switching over to the Bumgenius AIO one size diapers.  I have been told that, although they are one size fits all, they don't fit newborns. That's why I plan starting with the pre-folds.
  • We will be cloth diapering.  Right now I'm leaning towards the new Bum Genius Organic All in Ones that are all snaps (as I didn't like the idea of velcro cloth diapers).  Luckily, I'm going to St. Louis next week to visit family, and I'll be able to stop in at Cotton Babies retail location.  I'm looking forward to seeing so many different types of cloth diapers in person, and talking to sales people that actually know their stuff.  They also have an online registry that I'm going to try to put together for one of my showers.
  • We're definitely CDing. Info in my bio.

  • We are using cloth. I am mostly going with prefolds and covers although I do have some newborn fitted diapers as well.

You don't have to use pins with prefolds. You can use snappis that are much easier.

  • We have been considering it too and I have two friends who use them. They both use Fuzzi Bunz and have suggested the One Size. I am excited to find out what we hare havingso we can order pink or blue Big Smile
  • My SIL just gave me a ginormous tub full of cloth diapers (Firefly diapers all-in-ones), so I'm going to give it a shot.  At this point, it's free to me!
