Yeah, it sucked b/c I was on Primacare ONE and I loved it! Then Walgreens wouldn't refill it for me last month, so my doc had to switch me. I asked doc about it - and she said that there was something with one of the generic meds that happened (i don't think anything dangerous - just wasn't tested properly or something), so they closed the whole plant that manufactured all of them. She didn't seem concerned.
I called, and it sounds like it was more of a manufacturing/packaging/labeling issue - but who knows. ?She said there could be an issue with getting refills, but they only needed to be recalled at the wholesale level and there is no concern about safety or effectiveness for consumers.
yeah, apparently it was more about labelling and packaging. my dr said to finish up my current bottle and that she'll give me something else when these are done. no big deal.
I heard it was a packaging issue too and have a new rx for something else.
have you started the new ones yet? i am at a loss as to what to get. last pregnancy i went through 6 kinds of samples until primacare one finally worked for me, i.e. didn't make me want to puke. i am wondering what other people who took them are switching to so i can limit what to try this time...

V - I'll see what mine are - I haven't had any problems with them (but I don't think I have had problems with the store ones either). I just loved Primacare b/c they were coated so well - they were so easy to swallow - even though they were bigger than the 2 pills combined. (ok..that sounded dirty! lol). The ones I have now aren't as coated, but haven't had any problems with them. I take them at night right before bed.
Are you guys planning on switching due to concerns over the recall or because of availability issues?
availability. i had to wait a week to get mine filled last time and took walgreen's brand in between and they totally made me sick to my stomach. i would keep taking them but it's just too much of a pain if there is something else out there that is easier to get.
FYI- i had tried some non-script ones from Whole Foods that were food based and didn't upset my stomach BUT i relaized later you had to take 4-6 a day!! what a pain. i have enough trouble remembering one. so, if you go to a store brand or OTC version, make sure you check your dosage.
Gotcha - I still have 2.5 months supply of the Primacare Advantage, so we'll see if I end up needing to switch. ?Good luck with finding an alternative!
I am getting a new rx for both reasons. It seems odd to me that they would stop manufacturing these perfectly good vitamins due to packaging issues. Maybe that's me being suspect, but they also never really agreed with me anyway so I'm willing to try something else.
I don't remember what the nurse said she was calling in for me but I will let you know.

i think it's definitely worth thinking about. it's good to be suspect, esp where your health is concerned. although, the packaging 'rules' for this kind of stuff is pretty strict. for several years, you couldn't buy lindemans raspberry lambic in texas b/c it was labelled wrong. that was a rough couple years for me!
Re: Product Recall on Prenatal Vitamins
Yuck. Me too until very recently when I got too cheap. Thanks for posting. Please let me know if you hear more.

If Walgreens would still give it to me, I would take it. I was disappointed I had to switch.
