Babies: 0 - 3 Months

I'm such a cheap mom- am I alone?

i'm reading the post on what to dress ds in for Easter and it again made me realize I think I'm a cheap mom.  I wouldn't pay $26 for a Gymboree vest and some people are getting an entire outfit, including pants, shoes, button down shirt and vest for their baby.  I keep thinking he would spit up on it within 5 minutes and will outgrow it in a month.

Mind you, I'm not judging.  It just is such a different world for me and I think I must've missed out on the shopping gene or something.  Or maybe my cheapa$$ gene overrides it...lol.

  • I'm cheap too.  I refuse to pay retail for anything.

In other news, your siggy pick made me laugh out loud and startle my baby off the breast... hahahahahaha

  • I am right there with you. I haven't bought DD anything new that didn't come from Target on sale.  Anything name brand that we own is either hand me down or I bought on Ebay for next to nothing.  I am very frugal and have a hard time spending a lot of $ on something that DD is going to poop/spit up on.
  • I understand, I'm a cheap mom too! Then again I'm cheap when it comes to my own clothes too. I only buy dd the basics like onsies and sleepers, all the outfits she has came from family and friends. My mom and grandmom are all into buying pretty outfits for the holidays so I don't have to worry :)

  • i was in gymboree last weekend. i had an entire outfit picked out and THEN saw the price tags. i got everything (including shoes, socks and hat) for ds at children's place for the price of a vest and pants. i think i'll only shop there if we get gift cards or buy sale items!
  • I wouldn't spend that much money for a vest or really an entire outfit, but that's just cuz we don't have the money to spend on things like that.  I am able find very cute clothes on sale that I love dressing my kids in.  If I had the money to spend with no worries, I am not sure if I would change or not, but as of right now, we don't and I won't.

  • I must have the same gene. I responded in that Easter post that I may buy something new, but I haven't paid full price for any clothes for DS. His Easter outfit will probably be on a half-price rack somewhere. I just can't bring myself to pay some of those prices, and I think I get a shopper's high from getting a good deal. I'll join the cheap moms club with you!
  • No, I am with you. I can't justify paying that much for an outfit at Gymboree when more than likely he will only wear it once. I got DS' at Walmart and to me it looks pretty similar to that at Gymboree or Children's Place

  • I'm right there with you. His Christmas corduroy pants are close enough to fitting.
  • I'm the same way. No way can I spend that much for a kid that will outgrow it in weeks. DD & DS are dressed in nice name brand hand me downs from my cousins kids because she doesnt bat an eye at the price tag. She thinks the $60 dress from Bloomingdale's her DD wore once was a good deal. Indifferent

  • Nope, this is my second, so I know first hand what a waste it is!  DS never wore his easter outfit other than on Easter.

Too funny!  While you're at it, head over to EFF board and vote for him.  He's in second place. Smile

  • I absolutely balk at paying full price for almost anything.  DD's clothes are no exception.  Plus, she got enough clothes from showers I haven't needed to buy anything but a couple long sleeve onesies.

  • No- I posted yesterday about using different bottles for day care and home. The reason is that I didn't want to spend extra money buying more Born Free ones, when I had EvenFlo ones from my shower. I tried them and DS was fine.

  • No I am the same way, but my mom will spend 50 dollars on pajamas for Collin.  That is just ridiculous to me.  She will send stuff in the mail every once in a while too and I know she paid full price for something he will wear twice.  Ugh, I could get so much more stuff for what she pays for these things!

  • i'm the same way, Often I will surf the net and add items to my shopping cart but never buy them!!! Embarrassed If I do buy something i think about it for a few days.. In this economy i feel like I have to be a little stingy with my $$!! But I do LOVE Janie and Jack!!!! I will only buy sale items from there!!
  • We got a bunch of clothes from BFFs SIL.

  • Most of DS's clothes either hand me downs, gifts, or bought at the giant JBF consignment sales. When I buy him clothes, I won't go over $5-$10 for an outfit, $10 if its pants, shirt, vest (his Christmas outfit). I think Walmart is even expensive ha!

No reason to pay full price when they will only wear the outfit a handful of times at the most and probably poop on it. He seems to know when I want him to look nice because that is when he has his blowouts...

That is very nice I love that! Yeah I don't pay retail for my own clothes plus Gabrielle only wears an outfit twice and then it's on to the next size.

  • I'd pay $25 for an entire Easter outfit, but not just a vest. I don't mind spending b/c DS doesn't really wear outfits that often and we only have about 4 right now. We never leave the house and if I run to the store, he's in a sleeper and a snowsuit anyways.
  • I have an $80 gift card for there and still can't bring myself to spend it on how much their stuff costs!  They do have some good sales sometimes though.
