2nd Trimester

Showing a movie is a punishment?

I should preface this by saying that I am a strict teacher, I am the teacher that I hated in high school.

Since I am due in July I wanted to make sure that I could get through as many of my lesson plans as possible just in case I end up going early. I have been plowing thru everything and I thought I would be nice to my students and show a movie for the next 2 days... I NEVER show movies. The kids were asking if they did something wrong? I don't understand teenage logic but oh well! They get to enjoy Wall-E for their "punishment" and I can finish their grades!

  • oh I loved movie days! What do you teach?

  • I think this just speaks wonders for your relationship with your students.  Obviously they have bonded with you and enjoy the lessons you're plowing through!  Congrats!
  • Interesting! I was thinking maybe you'd picked a really bad movie... but I see that's not the case!
  • I teach computers. There really aren't any great movies about computers, at least none that I can show in school. I figure Wall-E has to do with technology and the kids would enjoy it.

DH teaches environmental studies and this is his favorite to show, besides the Planet Earth series.

  • Those are the best... not only a movie, but it's not a boring movie you try to sleep through. That was nice of you.
  • What an awesome teacher! My teachers were never that cool by letting us watch fun movies, instead we had to sit through boring documentaries of people who were born a super long time ago! Stick out tongue That did something "Very" important and most of these weren't even in our history books!
  • I don't remember EVER getting to watch movies in class... I had to take a drama class where we read Pygmalion (sp?) and they let us watch parts of My Fair Lady, but that's about it.  (And NO, I don't count the period video we watched in 6th grade.)

They should worship you after letting them watch Wall-E!

  • Because it's out of your norm they are probably thinking they did something wrong. That's funny. I loved movies back then...even the educational ones.
  • My freshman year history teacher had us watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail for a few days that year.

He still is my favorite teacher ever, to this day!  Stick out tongue

I teach at a private high school and our diocesan in-service this year our speaker was the teacher from Freedom Writers. She was fantastic! It made me want to change subjects!!!!!

I was thinking this too until I saw the movie. Who complains about movie days? Odd!

I know! The first class was so happy but the second class genuinely thought they were being punished. Now they are laughing and ohhhing and ahhhing. Strange kids.

Actually, one of my former teachers who still teaches here (this is where DH and I graduated from high school) shows Monty Python. He is one of the most fantastic teachers and the biggest prankster in the school.
