2nd Trimester

Family Doctor and Pediatrician??

We don't have a family doctor at the moment - I always go to the clinic on the campus I work at and DH, well, he just goes to a clinic whenever there's something wrong. Now that we're expecting, I'm on the search for a Family Doctor. But I'm wondering if I should also get a Pediatrician or just have the family doctor. The downside is we will not have had the doctor for very long so we won't know how good he or she really is with us let alone our baby... Any suggestions????

Oh and I'm Rebecca - I just entered my second trimester and I look forward to chatting with all of you! :)?

Re: Family Doctor and Pediatrician??

  • Do you know anyone that works at a Doc's office or in a hospital that might be able to recommend a good Ped or Family Doc?  We asked a few of our friends who work in a hospital and they gave us all the same answer.  So we felt pretty confident that we are with the Ped best in our area.

  • hmm that's good idea. ?I have one friend who is a resident right now - maybe she would have a good idea. ?Thanks :)?
  • I'll probably just do a Pediatrician for my children.  I get my cholesterol checked at my yearly GYN visits and I know they'll start doing mamograms once the time comes.  I go to an ENT for bad things like flu or ear infections.

Hubby is a fireman so they have physicians on staff to do yearly physicals and checkups.

  • I'm in a similar situation.  we just relocated and I got pregnant right away.  I found an OB but they said I have to have a family dr and pediatritian.  Well I found a pediatritian that will take my newborn but my older son had to have a physical for preschool and so I had to take him to a different pediatritian that I didn't really care for.  Soooo... now I'm on a search for myself/husband and son...its difficult because they want you to have a dr but I can't seem to just register as a patient until I need to be seen so how can I say "oh yea, I have dr" when technically I've never seen the dr.
  • Welcome!!! I'm Chrissy.
