When I picked up DS today, they slipped a note in his bag so I read it when I get home and it's a registration form. It says that his $200 annual registration fee is due along with $200 supply fee. Are you kidding me?? Seriously!! Is this common???
We take DS to a private (in-home) day care and I know that I have to pay a $50 supply fee due when DS turns 6 months but nothing about a registration fee.
That amount seems high to me. Is that an annual fee maybe?
Ok..so I guess a supply fee and annual registration fee are standard?? I really would like to know what they are buying with the $200. I honestly don't think DS is going to use $200 worth of crayons.
My son goes to a MDO, but we still pay $100 annual fee and then a supply fee which ranges from $100-200/yr depending on how many days you are enrolled.
So, I think it's common but those amounts do seem kinda high.

Wow, $200 seems a bit high for an infant - they really don't do much with T at the moment and we only paid a $95 registration fee. When she moves over to Young Toddler in August (they think, we'll see) we'll have to pay the supply fee. I would ask them why a $200 fee for a baby that can't really use crayons or paint at the moment.
Creamy - this is at Primrose and I thought I heard you say DD goes to Primrose. Is that correct?? They do paint and do crafts once a week but geez I didn't think they do that much. I guess I just need to suck it up and pay it. I was just really caught off guard with the whole thing.
We paid an 80 registration fee and that is all that was required. I will ask tomorrow when I drop him off because he is in the process of transitioning to the level 200 room. Although, come to think of it, when I got the info for the transition there was no mention of a supply fee.
Holy crap, yeah, we do go to a Primrose! They've not been doing crafts with Tessa and Annabelle (Ethan is too small) lately, so maybe that's why there's no fee? I know each Primrose is a franchise, which could explain the difference, but I'm sorry - $200 is still exorbitant for a supply fee for an infant. Which Primrose are you attending?
We go to the one in Flower Mound. I know the owner just opened another one up in the Prosper area.
He is in the older infants class and I have been getting some kind of painting or drawing every week and at X-mas they made a tile ornament with his hand print on it. I wasn't even aware of the registration fee. I paid it when he started but didn't realize it was going to be like a yearly membership fee.
Holy crap! I watch an 18 month old on Thurs and Fri mornings for $50, there is no other fee, lol. I babysit, he destroys Ike's toys end of story. That seems pretty crazy for a baby, isn't that what you pay them weekly for?
This does seem high for a child of any age. Currently our center does not charge a supply fee. There is a registration fee of $50 per child or $80 for a family, but we only have to pay half if we pay during early registration. There is also an activity fee of $10.00 per month for 2-5 year olds but that covers gymnastics and fitness programs.
The daycare I worked at for about 7 years had a supply fee, but no registration fee after your inital registration. They always told parents that this fee covered art supplies as well as gloves, plates, silverware, cups, and paper for the changing table, etc.
I would still question a fee as high as you are talking about.
Thanks ladies!! I just spoke with the neighbor whose DD has been going there for 3 years and she explained that the fee was for bibs, sheets, art supplies, books, toys, new cribs, and other necessities. All parents have to pay it no matter what the age of the child. So for $400 a year plus the $240 I pay per week I had better start seeing some new toys, bibs, and books appear in his classroom.
Yikes! DS is going to be starting at the Children's Courtyard in Flower Mound (same parking lot as Primrose) in April and I have heard nothing about a supply fee. I just looked at the registration paperwork and it says nothing about it in there either. I do know that they provide sheets, bibs, burp cloths, etc, but I assumed it was included in the weekly fee (also $240 per week). I guess we'll see.

We pay an annual registration fee every fall, plus a supply fee twice a year.
I think the annual fee is $100-ish and the supply fee depends on their age. Right now we pay $75.
So the total for the year is about $250 or so.

I would ask what the supply fee covers.

You know, I remember when I looked at Primrose in N. Lewisville (which I really liked btw), they had some awful high "registration and supply fees".
At our current place, we only paid $50 to start, and not sure what the annual fee is, if there is one.
WOW! That is a bit extreme. Our supply fee is $40 every 6 months and he goes to a private school!!
