Not gaining weight...

Since I've started my pregnancy, I've only gained 7 lbs.  But if you guys were to see me, my belly is huge!!!!!!!!!!!  I look like I could drop at any second.  With my first pregnancy though, I gained about 25 lbs.  I also started at a heavier weight this preg then the 1st.

My doctor doesn't seem to be overly concerned about it, but is there anything I can do/eat to gain more weight?

Re: Not gaining weight...

  • If your doctor is not concerned you should not be either.

Your doc will let you know if your weight gain is not on track or if he/she thinks there is a reason to try and gain more.  I would leave it be, especially if you started out at a higher weight.  You do add about half a pound a week at the end of the third trimester, so really . . . don't be concerned and don't be looking to bulk up.

Just concern yourself with eating healthy foods in appropriate amounts, and getting regular gentle exercise.

  • How much weight does your doctor want you to gain?  If you started the pregnancy overweight your doctor may be okay with you only gaining 10-15 lbs. overall.

    very well said

i never gained an ounce... as a matter of fact, i lost weight while pregnant despite eating 6-9 small meals a day

  • I agree.  I Lost over 20 lbs the first 10 weeks of pregnancy but my doctor said its ok, because I had gained almost 30 due to some meds i was on Pre Preg, so I still have been gaining "baby" weight but loosing the "bad weight".
