Sad & don't know what to do

Hi There,

I just needed to vent since my husband is not home & I'm in tears. The story is my little brother is being recalled to Iraq in a month. He is not only leaving us, but more importantly his pregnant fiance.

She is due in July, like me, and he is not sure if he will be home for the birth of his little girl. (They just found out today). So long story short, my mom called this evening & is a wreck. When he was gone the 1st time for 16 months, she could barely function.

I live far away from the family, they in Arizona & I am here in Wisconsin.  I just don't know what to do. I am already more emotional from the pregnancy. When I talk to my mom I just get more worked up & just sob. I know that I can't prevent any of the bad stuff, but this sucks so much. He is my baby brother.

I guess there is no real question here. Just a vent. I just can't wait till all of this war stuff is over.Crying It's like I finally get used to him being home, knowing he is safe & calling when we want to him having to go away again.

I give big proops to the women on the board who have their husbands/SOs in the military. They all are amazing in my book!! I feel so not cut out for this. Anyway, thanks for reading.

  • I'm so sorry to hear this. My big brother and my BIL are deployed as we speak. My little brother just got out of the military this past year. I couldn't imagine if either of them had little ones on the way and had to leave! I too give HUGE props to the military wives/mothers/etc. Anytime you need to vent, of course we're here :D I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

  • i am so sorry for you and your family, you will be in my prayers.

  • Hi honey,

I just wanted to say, I know how you feel. All you can really do is be supportive and stay in contact with everyone. There's really not much else you can do. In all fairness, he did join, he knew it could happen, and now that it is, there's really not much else to do. I have a lot of friends who had babies while their SO's were in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is REALLY hard and she will be going through SO many different emotions. He could try to put in his R&R time around her due date, and maybe they might give it to him, but with the military being the military, you can't guarantee anything.

With that being said, my baby brother (*he's 18 now) is in the fire department here and it terrifies me everytime a call goes out. The worries are still the same. Just really try to be there for his FI. You and your family will get through it! Plus, think of how bittersweet the homecoming will be!!

Good luck to him and your family. You will all be in my prayers. And if you ever need to vent, cry, etc feel free to PM me! I've been through 2 deployments now, and may have to deal with another one shortly after baby is born.

  • I'm so sorry.  I'll be praying for you and your family too.  My baby brother was deployed to Iraq about 3 months ago.  It is hard on everyone.  If he has been there before, then you know all you can do is offer lots of support to each other.  I can't even imagine how his FI is feeling.

  • I am so sorry. I totally understand what you are feeling, my hubby has been 3 times. One thing that really helped me was writting a lot (more emails), sending LOTS AND LOTS of care packages, and staying busy with friends and family.  It doesnt matter if it is a husband or a brother, but you might be able to find a support group for people with family overthere.  I went to a supprot group for this last deployment (15 months) and it helped so much!! I hope he can be home for the baby! I will be thinking about you all!
