Ok we have all thought about it and I know it is on our worry list- how do we take it easy and get off of our feet in our profession?
Here is a chance to brainstorm some ideas.
*I have a round table in my room that I can use for students to come over and meet with me to go over their work. Too bad it is Special Education and they ALL need me at all times so the table will be full.
Re: Teachers Who Need to Take it Easy
I'm in the same situation as you. I teach special education k-3rd grade. I have a kidney shaped table that I have all the kids sit around me durinng instruction time.
I have a stool that I sit on while using the overhead projector. I also have a rolling computer chair that I used when I was on bed rest but didn't have the days to take off. The administrators have been kept in the loop about the issues I've been facing, so they know not to say anything if I'm not standing or walking the room when they come in.
I also have a table that I sit at while the kids are doing individual work. If they have a question, I have them come to the table to get help. Although, I teach 7th graders, so they are a little more independent than younger grades.
MissLady-
How many are on your caseload? Are you working with one grade at a time?
I like this post...I need some ideas since I am having the worst leg cramps and everything already from being on my feet all day.
I teach 4th grade and while it's almost impossible for me to get off of my feet I try to get the students to come to me or I sit in a chair at the front of the class while we read or have a discussion. It is hard though...
I have 30 altogether. Luckily my kindergartners are all either consults or non pull out. Then I see the 1st/2nd grade at one time and then the 3rd grade at another. I see most of my 1st and 2nd graders two different times throughout the day. 1st/2nd grade Language Arts togehter. 1st math inclusion time. 2nd grade math pull out and 3rd grade pull out for Written Language Arts. I'm really lucky though. I have an aide that's in there with me for the most part. Especially since we started with a new reading program. Read Well K, Read Well K-Plus and Read Well 1.
