2nd Trimester

Threatened with bed rest today.

I had a dr. appointment and I told her that I had been having contractions.  She asked why I didn't call and I told her I had and the other Dr. on call said call back if it got worse.  So, she told me I was on the step before bed rest. I have to sit as much as I can at work (I'm a teacher, how do I do that) and take it easy at home.  This is the third or fourth time I've heard this.  I keep thinking, sure with a two year old and when I'm moving in the next month.

The good news was I wasn't dialated, but I did start to efface.  I have to be monitored.

It was a wake up call, but it's still frustrating because I just have so much to do and I don't do 'take it easy' well.

Re: Threatened with bed rest today.

  • Really?  I've had lots of contractions too and my dr told me that it is normal, especially when you have already had a baby.  He said that is helps blood flow and is nothing to be worried about unless they become very painful and/or very frequent.

Hope you don't end up on bedrest!!

  • I didn't think it was a big deal either.

  • O M G!  I am a teacher too and I know I need to take it easy and sit as much as possible but I do NOT see it happening.  I have been having a strange pain in my front and back (almost like gas without actual gas) for a few days.

Maybe we (and other teachers out there) can brainstorm ways to sit and relax more during the day.

  • I can't imagine how hard it is to "take it easy" when you have another child at home, but maybe you can come up with some ways to have others help out.  Do you have family/friends in the area that can help out?  I went on bedrest at 21 weeks due to preterm labor and have managed to keep my baby in 15 weeks later.

I wasn't allowed to keep working at all, so as hard as it is to take it easy at work, try your best so that you don't get taken out of work completely.

Even though you are not on bedrest yet, if you have any questions, come check out our bedrest check-in on third tri.  We just post there cause thats where most of us are, but we have members from all trimesters.  Here's the link to today's check-in if you are interested.

Good luck and I hope you don't end up on bedrest.
