here is what I have written to reply to her. Does it sound ok? This girl is really really nice and I want to be honest, but I don't want to hurt her. I left out the part about grammar on her "about me" page and figured if she liked my first opinions, she'd ask me for more and then I can tell her about the little stuff. WDYT?

In general, I really like your site. There are some amazing photographs in there that can really show off what you are able to do! I LOVE the one of the little girl with the flower headband (My daughter has the same headband!), and the little boy lost in the cowboy hat. I also love the picture of Barbie's son...the really close up one at the end of the "Babies" section.
I do think it's important to try to round your portfolio out with more subjects. Start offering to take complimentary photos of your friends and friends kids, just to get some new faces in there. To help you do that, I'd classify the "babies" as ones who are 2 and under and the rest are "kids". You've definitely got a good foundation to work from!
Thanks for asking my opinion!! Let me know if you need anything else!
Take Care,
Katie

Re: Is this good? (re: friend's photog site post)
Tell her to be really, really picky about which ones she shares... I think you'd be OK saying that a few of them feel more like snapshots than portraits; if she asks for specifics, it opens the door to you being able to suggest which ones might be not so good, KWIM?
As an example, for my online portfolio, I only have like 3 ads I've done here at work... I make about 5 new ads EVERY DAY, but I only feel like 3 are good enough to put in my portfolio.
She's better off with half a dozen spectacular images than 20 average ones.
In general, I like your site. (Can you comment about the layout, ease of navigation?)(I would definately point out the grammatical stuff, it's not personal and she's asking for a critique.) I noticed on the About Me page some minor grammar stuff...
There are some photographs in there that really show off your talent, specifically: the one of the little girl with the flower headband (My daughter has the same headband!), and the little boy lost in the cowboy hat. I also love the picture of Barbie's son...the really close up one at the end of the "Babies" section.

To help you do that, I'd classify the "babies" as ones who are 2 and under and the rest are "kids". Also, too much of a good thing can be just that - too much. Keep your catagories limited to 10 or 20 photos, any more & the navigation becomes cumbersome.
You've definitely got a good foundation to work from! Thanks for asking my opinion!! Let me know if you need anything else!
Okay, I've tweaked some of it... Hope it helps.
Ok...I revamped:
In general, I really like your site. The layout is clean and the font you chose is easy to read. There are a few changes I'd make on your About Me page to make it easier to read as a potential client. I'd make it more succinct. I'd touch on you being a wife and mother, but I'd keep it simple. People are hiring you to be a photographer and as potential clients, they want to know you will be as dedicated to their session as you are to your family. I'd focus more on how you honed your craft, any inspirations, and any classes you may have taken.
Some of the photos, I have to be honest, do feel like snapshots, but there are some nice photographs in there that can really show off what you are able to do! I think you should be really really picky about what pictures you put in your portfolio. I LOVE the one of the little girl with the flower headband (My daughter has the same headband!), and the little boy lost in the cowboy hat. I also love the picture of Barbie's son...the really close up one at the end of the "Babies" section.
