My OB said I could whenever, but the paperwork I got said to wait until bleeding subsided. I haven't yet only because I haven't had time to. But, I would make sure tub is really clean and would probably avoid bathing in it (I sit in for relaxation) as you might not want to sit in soapy water.
I was never told NOT to take a bath. I probably took one like 1 week PP. It was very uncomfortable for me to sit on the sitz bath so I would soak in warm water in the bath tub instead.
They let me take a whirlpool bath while I was still in the hospital PP, and I had a 3rd degree tear (which obviously hadn't healed yet by then). They didn't say anything about not taking more baths when I got home. I agree with PP - probably good to avoid lots of soap in the water or any bubble bath or bath salts.
Married June '03. DS born Jan '09. DD born Feb '12. No, we didn't choose to be childless for the first 6 years, only the first 3.
I was never told not to take a bath. I had a 4th degree tear and at my 2 wk pp check-up was told one of them had popped and to take a bath everyday instead of a shower and that's exactly what I did. I still try to take a bath everyday now - it's my only alone time.
I had a 2nd degree tear, so I still have stiches. At my 2w appointment, my MW said that if I wanted to take a bath in my OWN bath at home that I could. I've been enjoying them without any problems ever since.
That's strange, they told me I should take 2 baths a day for 2 weeks. I had a 2nd degree tear. I guess maybe like PP said, you shouldn't sit in soapy water, but I don't really ever do that anyway. I just like warm water. Maybe you could call your OB to clarify? It would really make your episiotomy feel better, and help clean it more than you can any other way...
Re: when did you take a PP bath?
sitz bath is only a couple of inches of plain water vs. a tub full of soapy water that can irritate and infect.
