Got kicked out of the gym daycare...again

Just needed to vent. I am really, really trying to keep up on working out atleast 4x a week and eating right, but the daycare lady at the gym is making it unbearable. I got a pricey membership only b/c they had such a great kids club, flexible times, etc. and I DO like the care taker. The only problem? Evry time one of my kids has a runny nose, she has the manager locate me and then say I have to leave b/c my kid's sick. Now I totally get it if my kid had a fever, a cough, a rash, etc. and he/she is contagious. Of course I don't want the other kids to get sick. But the runny nose?! And, she (the babysitter) told me that she didn't want to risk getting her husband or herself sick. No mention of the other kids, SHE didn't want to get sick:( I stayed home yesterday and will hopefully get to go today if his nose has dried up. I'm just so irritated that she's such a friggin hypochondriac. By the way, when she was gone for the last 2 weeks, we had NO problems with the other babysitter. She never once complained of my kids being sick (b/c they weren't)

  • That's ridiculous.  I think you need to talk to the gym manager.

  • Could you just tell her the runny nose is from allergies?  My son's is actually due to that and it goes through phases of runny/non-runny.  Then provide an extra box of Kleenex for good measure. :)

  • I agree with Neeser!  What kid doesn't have a runny nose?  Every day I pick up DS from daycare at least five kids have snot pouring out of their nose.  As long as the snot isn't green I'd be pissed if I were you.

I agree.  I would talk to the gym manager.  Esp since for 2 wks that she was gone you never had a problem from the other care taker.  Runny noses are nothing for kids.  At least one of mine always has a runny nose.  Its not always because of a cold.  Some kids have allergies just like adults and those allergies can cause a runny nose.  She isnt going to get sick because of a runny nose.  Esp. if she keeps up with washing her hands regularly.

Oh some people are stupid.  Im guessing she doesnt have kids?!  Wont she have so much fun once she does!

  • That would piss me off too.  If we had to stay away from the gym b/c of a runny nose, we'd never go.

I don't even care if someone comes to our house for a playdate with just a runny nose (so long as it isn't obviously green).

It could be allergies for all she knows.

  • I would ask the manager what the gym's sick policy is. And explain the conversation. It is winter what kids does not have a runny nose. It seems the care giver in the daycare should reevaluate her job choice if she doesn't want to be around snot. Kids + Winter = SNOT. No way to avoid it in my opinion.

  • I've tried that, b/c my pediatrician has told me that's what my kids runny noses are from (seriously, one of them always has a runny nose and I've been to the DR so many times thinking my kids had a contagious cold) She won't budge. I've even asked my Dr. to write a note so she knows, but he tells me it's the gym's right to decline services if they think the child's sick. He's a big help, right?

then i'd talk to the gym manager and threaten to pull your membership if they can't work with you.  she's being completely ridiculous.  if she doesn't want to get sick, she shouldn't be working in a daycare! runny noses can be caused by teething as well, someone qualified to work with kids should know that!
