Lanterns v. Mobiles?

I notice a lot of posts regarding paper lanterns over the crib instead of the traditional mobile.  Is this simply a taste/preference issue, or is there some sort of research out there about mobiles that that says they aren't considered "safe" anymore?

Re: Lanterns v. Mobiles?

  • I believe is it more about taste.  At least it is for me :)  Most of my friends who have traditional mobiles said that they didn't feel that their little ones used it much and once they could pull themselves up they had to take it down anyways.  Plus some mobiles don't fit on some of the cribs with wider trim and detailing.

  • I'm going to have both.   My paper lanterns are hanging in a corner of the room, and he will have his mobile on his crib as well!! Good Luck!

    Ditto.

    Lanterns are just for decor.

  • Mine is the money thing.  Whatever I can get cheaper.  i like the tissue paper poofs too.
  • we're having both too... mobile over the crib (but does have to be taken down once the baby can pull him/herself up) and then lanterns over the changing area.

  • I'm doing the marth stewart tissue paper pom poms...I haven't decided if I'll do them over the crib or the changing table ormaybe over the rocker.

I got them at Michaels they were $19.99 for 7 of them.  And I used a 40% coupon :)
