this idiot coworker of mine just got a dog. good for her. DH and I both suggested she go through the SPCA because they have a cubic asston of animals that need homes. she declined, and got her precious chihuahua from a puppy mill.
to each their own. the owner of the puppy mill gave her dog his first shots, and she needed to take him to the vet for the second set. she asked how much it cost, and I explained to her that any vet would charge a first visit fee sinceher dog had never been to a vet, in addition to the shot. I recommended my vet, who is wonderful, and offers military discounts. She said it was too expensive, but I guess she went there anyway.
then today she comes in griping about how much it costs to neuter and microchip her dog. she said she was only going to pay for the next set of shots and not the other stuff because she wanted to breed her dog.
I don't disagree with breeding. If it's done in a controlled, well educated environment. BUT, breeding is generally more expensive to do than neuter, correct?
So I explain to her that 80,000 dogs and cats are euthanized everyday because there aren't enough people giving these animals good homes. I also explained to her that you can go through our local SPCA to neuter, and it's WAY cheaper than the vet.
What happened? she said, "my dog is too young to have sex anyway".
I can't take it anymore.
Re: why, oh why, are people SO stupid?!?!? long pet vent.
exactly! I also looked it up and the first year of pet ownership costs, on average, $1, 347. where is this b!tch from?!?!
::Headdesk::
At least at our local humane society, they counsel people on what everything costs before they allow them to adopt. GAH. Stupid.
she didn't give a reason. probably because "he's so cute" or something along those lines.
yes, this. Omino has a rare skin disorder we didn't know about when we got him. We drop an additional $80 a month on top of his shots and other meds to keep it under control. This woman is nuts.
My guess would be to make money. People like that make me sick! Breeding makes absolutely no since to me when there are SO many pets in shelters that need a good home. We got our cat and dog from a shelter. Our dog did have some issues to overcome (we're pretty sure he was abused) but now he's the greatest dog ever.
oh, I'm not afraid of the pets board. But, as a side note, this woman is NOT my friend.
I've looked up a ton of resources and given them to her already. Thanks though! maybe I'll post it later just so they can see what an idiot she is.:)
