2nd Trimester

Happy Ash Wednesday!

At least being pregnant, I won't have to fast (I was worried about that as I can't seem to go more than 2 hours without food). Also, for Lent, I am giving up candy bars. Instead, I will contribute an extra $5 a week to my charity for this year-the local Humane Society.  (In my family, you give up and then give something for Lent). Also, I will try to make it to mass more consistently this year than last year, and do at least one session of the stations of the cross.

What is everyone here giving up for Lent?

Re: Happy Ash Wednesday!

  • I was thinking that the food thing would just be impossible since I already feel deprived.

I've decided to give up some of my bad habits: gossipping at work, complaining about pregnancy stuff, griping about MIL.....should be VERY tough.

We always try to DO something, too.  I'm going to be sure we go to Mass EVERY weekend (plus today) and pack my lunch 2 days a week and use that money to donate at church in addition to the normal donation.

DH is giving up sweets. So all the cookies left in the house are MINE!

  • I'm going to do something positive. I'm going to give some time/money/products to a local woman's shelter in my area. It helps moms and their kids so I think that will help the greater good than me trying to give up something...

And frankly the only thing I love lately food wise is plums and I just can't give those up!!

  • I think I am going to try my best to stick to no meat on Fridays. In years past I have not been a very good catholic and consumed meat on Fridays- Bad Girl, I know! Not the best sacrifice, but better then nothing Stick out tongue

  • Yeah, I don't think I can really give up any foods right now, I just eat what tastes good on any given day.  I am going to commit to going to church every Sunday (I'm bad at doing the every other week thing).  I also like what pp said about packing lunches, I've gotten in a bad habit of not doing that, so maybe cutting back to one day eating out a week, I like that one.

By the way, my social commitee just sent out a reminder of our staff bbq at lunch today, I mean I know not everyone is Catholic, but there are quite a few here, think they could have waited until tomorrow. (and no, they woulnd't have thought to get veggie burgers or anything! lol)  Good thing I brought my tuna sandwich!

  • I don't think I'm giving anything up but I have never done my first reconciliation so maybe I could do that.  I'm scared though, LOL.  I was baptised & confirmed in 2006.  I guess I don't really have anything terrible to confess but it's still scary to me!

  • I think I'm going to try and give up some bad habits...normally I'll skip soda or alcohol so that was out.  I'm definitely going to try to get to mass more often...I've been two weeks in a row so far so I think I'm on a good track!
