3rd Trimester

Back from L&D and on bedrest. :-/

I had a lot more Braxton Hicks and weird lower pelvic twinges over the past two days than normal (for me anyway), so I went into my doctor's this morning and sure enough, I was contracting. ?She sent me to L&D where they confirmed I was contracting every three minutes. ?No good. ?The good news is that while my cervix was soft, it was closed and long and the baby was kicking the bajesus out of the monitors and his heart rate was great.?

They gave me three separate terbutaline shots which calmed them quite a bit. ?And sent me home with oral terbutaline to take ever six hours. ?I'm on bedrest until at least Monday, but since I've already had seven more contractions in the first hour since I got home, I have a bad feeling my bedrest might need to be longer. ?:-/ ?And if these suckers don't quit, I have a feeling I'll end up back in L&D yet again tonight.

Phooey. ? My little guy needs to cook longer! ?Please keep us in your thoughts.

    ?

I hope everything will work out. ?

  • Stay in baby!! Cook cook cook!
  • The exact same thing happened to me with Kate.  I had loads of contrax starting at 30 wks, numerous trips to L&D, bedrest from 30-37 wks, oral terb and shots, but my cervix never dilated.  In the end, I delivered an 8 lb healthy baby at 38 wks.  I hope it is similarly positive for you!
  • Best of luck Annie!  Which hospital are you going to up here?

  • The same exact scenario happened to me at 33 weeks- and now I am 37 weeks and 1 day.  It really made a difference I think to chill out- as much as I hated the bedrest thing.  I then got to do a modfied bedrest- go to work 2 days a week as long as sitting only- and gradually have increased my activity.  Hang in there- as long as there are no cervical changes, it could just be something you have to manage but not something to make the baby come sooner.  I was so bummed- and worried.
  • so sorry to hear you are on bedrest.  As a bedrest myself I totally sympathize.  If you want support of other bedresters we have a daily check in that usually takes places around 1:00.  There's a lot of girls on there and it's a great place to share the ups and downs.
  • Hang in there Annie! ?Keep the baby cooking away, ?

I'm at Fairfax. ?They are really great over there, so that was a plus.
  • Good luck Annie! Baby, stay inside mommy. Only a few weeks to go.
  • Sorry you're having a rough time.  Rest up and tell that baby to stay put!

  • This SAME thing happened to me at 26 weeks and I am on oral Terb as well. I continue to have lots BH on a daily basis. Just lay low and dont do anything too strenuous.  Also drinks lots of water and be sure to empty your bladder as often as possible.  Good Luck!!
  • I've been having this since 22 weeks - we went into L&D for the first time at 23 weeks and I was graphing contractions every 5 minutes.  My cervix was closed so they let me go home.  My doc put me on procardia to slow the contractions.  But since my cervix is still closed she says I am fine to keep working as long as nothing changes.  I also have gotten several cervical length ultrasounds and so far all is good.  Except the baby is frank breech!

I contract all the time at work - so sometimes I wish I was on bedrest, but everything I have read says bedrest doesn't make much of a difference, especially if you aren't dilated or shortened yet.

  • Good luck! ?You did the right thing. ?I had this happen me. ?At 31 weeks I had contractions 30 sec long and about a minute apart. ?I managed to stay pregnant till 41 weeks. ?I delivered a healthy 8 lbs 5 oz baby boy :) ?Stay positive, call your doc according to the guidelines they gave you. ?Oh, and for what it's worth, I did not go on bed rest, I did not?dilate?till 35 weeks. ?That said, I had twice weekly NST's, a couple of trips to triage every week and much stressfulness, till I hit term.
