I was thinking about this today as thoughts of L&D are getting closer. When I delivered Avery, I pushed for 10 minutes and was very calm. I probably could have had a silent birth experience (with the drugs of course), but I did talk a bit. I didn't scream at all or even raise my voice.
After it was over, the doctor and nurses told me how great I did. So this morning, I started wondering if they tell everyone that or if I really did a great job. I have heard other tales of women screaming their heads off and acting like a crazy lady and I was super calm...all this time I was thinking I did something stellar (kidding).
So - did your doctor tell you that you did a great job? Do you feel like you really did?

Oh, I would have probably screamed my head off without my epidural!

i had an epidural, and was pretty quiet through the whole thing, and my dr. told me the same thing. my l&d nurse also told me i made it look easy.

I can pretty much recount the 10 minutes of pushing and everything I said without much thought. I am strange like that though.

With Elena and the epidural, they said I was doing a great job and a "do it just like that " when I figured out how to push the right way. Don't remember any great jobs at the end though.
With Julia and no pain meds, I think it was really just a lot more exclamations about the speed of the whole thing -- I don't remember any "great jobs" from any part of that one. (I don't think I screamed, but I did have a running commentary about burning and the like).
