Tell me about B6 & unisom

I scrolled back a few pages and didn't see anything recent. Obviously I'll ask my doctor if it's ok but who's doing this for ms? Are we talking about the unisom for sleeping or is this something else? I get what the B6 is for but what does the unisom do - is it just to help you sleep better at night or does it do something specific for your morning sickness?

I just can't take this 24 hour nausea any more. I feel so bad for my son because I can't play with him for more than 5 minutes without needing to sit down and take deep breaths. It was bad last time but I didn't have a kid to chase around all day so something really needs to be done about this.

Re: Tell me about B6 & unisom

  • My Midwife assured me that the 2 work Miracles. She said the Unisom helps with Nausea and sleep. Take one before bed.. and it should help the whole next day.. If you need more, take half the next day. Make sure you are aware it will make you drowsy. *Duh*  Hmm

B6 is a good one too. She suggested I get both..

Sidenote: (((She said it says do not use if pregnant on the box, but that is okay.. )))

  • I took the B6 for nausea that I was having.  It helped me, but I still felt bad.  I didn't take the unisom at night because it knocks me out cold and I was the only one home taking care of Julia and I didn't want to take that chance.  I used it for a week.  In the end I ended up calling my OB and asking for Zofran.  It has made a world of difference.  I am not 100%, but I can actually function now.
  • About 3 weeks ago, I couldn't take the 24 hour nausea either. My MW told me to stop taking my PV and take 25 mg of B6, 3 x a day; and half a Unisom at night.

I am still constantly nasueas, but now my diet has expanded. Before the B6 I only wanted a couple of things to eat; now I can eat more types of food. I have also lost a total of 10lbs (6 pre-B6 and 4 more since). So I can eat more types of food, but I don't want much and I still throw it up.

I go to my MW tomorrow for my first big appt; and we'll see if they have any other suggestions.

  • I usually lurk here, but delurking to say...

B6 and Unisom is a godsend.  I take 25 mg of B6 2-3x/day, and half a Unisom at night (the doxylamine version, not the benedryl version).  It knocked me out the first few nights but now I wake up pretty quickly with it - your body definitely gets used to it.

And the best part is that I stopped the all-day puking.  I was in a fetal position on the couch for most of the day, and became a more functional adult again.  It took about a day but it was a miracle.

I tried ginger, sea bands, B6 alone, the relief band, jolly ranchers, eating...to no avail.

(P.S.  Have no ticker, but 11w4d today, which really makes this inaugural post on 1st tri kind of moronic.)

    Hope that helps -
