Ok, so I had the ultrasound with the perinatologist on Friday. It said my baby is 6 lbs 10 oz. Today I was supposed to have another NST, but the baby wasn't cooperating, so they did a biophysical profile (U/S) instead. Today's u/s said she's 7 lbs 10 oz. YEAH. I don't think she gained a pound in five days, especially since overall, I lost 2 lbs since Thursday. Yeah.
So in talking to the doc, he said he doesn't really pay that much attention to the u/s estimated weight unless the baby looks REALLY big, or really small.
What that means for me - no amnio, no ripping the baby out at the end of next week. YAY! AND, I now have biophysical profiles one time each week instead of NSTs 2 times. So that works well for me - I like getting to see her.
On another note - my cervix is high and tight - ZERO progress, but her head is way down low - so THAT explains how much it hurts to walk right now!
Re: Do not go by the ultrasound weight!
Yep. Wasn't Jessimurph's off by a pound or so?
And for those of you whose doctors recommend inductions or cesareans because your baby is measuring large, you should know that there is no evidence supporting that recommendation. In fact, studies support letting the mom go into labor on her own (unless there is some other issue obviously). Inductions and c/s for suspected large size do NOT improve outcomes for either the mom or the baby. Go to Google Scholar and look yourself.
And I totally went in there today ready to fight the amnio/induction plan - given the thought that even if she is 7 lbs now, that's still only around 9 lbs in 4 weeks, which I KNOW I can push through my vag. And I didn't have to fight - my doc is all for waiting as long as she's looking good on the biophysical profile! YAY for my doc!
This is exactly what my Dr. said when I asked if she was concerned that baby is measuring ahead. I was thrilled to hear she wouldn't push an induction on me.

My BFF was told her baby was 7 1/2 lbs and when she gave birth last week he was only 5 lbs 13oz! ?That is A LOT off!?
i don't think it's a secret that USs can be up to 3lbs off + or -.... or they can be dead on - you'll really never know until you deliver.
my DS's estimated weight was pretty much correct.... and then there's my friend who was told her baby was about 7lbs and turned out to be 10lbs 11 oz!!!!
there is no exact science with ultrasounds- for any measurments - but it's the best we've got until they are out!
My SIL her first child they were only off by a half of a pound. This time was much different. SHe was there 2 or 3 weeks ago and they said the baby was 7.4 lbs she had another one done this past Friday and they said the baby was 9.1 lbs. Well yesterday she had a 7.14 baby girl. SO both were way off.
