I saw a different Dr then my normal one on Monday and she was asking me if I wanted to get the Epi before they started the pitocin since it can cause painful contractions. (I am being induced).
She said that once the pit is started they would have to stop it to give me an epi and that it can slow down process of good contractions.?
?
What did you do? and how did it turn out?
?
Thanks?
Re: For those who were induced....Epi before or after Pitocin started?
I got my epi a couple hours after they started the pitocin. It worked out fine. I didn't even really feel the contractions too much before the epi, but I started to get a little uncomfortable around 3-4cm. They were going to give me that Nubane stuff, but my doc said to just do the epi.
Smooth sailing until pushing time
I got mine after they started pit. They broke my water and started pit around 7:30- by 9 I was in serious pain and I got the epi around 9:45. It helped ALOT and I was fully dilated by 1.
GL!!!
They started my pitocin at 9 am and I got the Epi at 5 pm. I didn't even really feel contrations until about noon. So until I got my epi, I was able to walk around, use the ball, get in the bath/shower, etc.
When I did get my epi at 5 - I needed it!
Between 9 am and 5 pm, I went from 1 cm, 50% to 5 cm, 100%. Once I got the Epi, I went from 5 cm at 5 pm to 10 cm at 7 pm.
My midwife actually turned my pitocin off completely when I got my epidural. She let me labor on my own. Once your contractions are going, your body can take over. So I really don't see the point of avoiding turning off the pitocin for a few minutes. I can't see why it would have a major effect.
I waited wayyyy too long for my epi. Started the pit at 1pm, got the epi close to midnight. An 18 hour pitocin labor was NO fun, so thank god for that epi!!
Honestly though, the ctx weren't that bad until about 6 hours into it. But I have a pretty high pain threshold.... there's no reason to wait if you know you want one, so I'd just go ahead and do it unless you want to be able to move around in the early labor...
I was actually told the opposite. Since I was induced I hadn't dilated much. They administered the pitocin to begin contractions/dilation. Once I was dilated (I don't remember how far), they then offered me an epi if I wanted one. I waited until the pain of the contractions were up to about an 8 and then elected to have the epi. They didn't want to give me the epi first because they wanted to make sure I progressed enough.
Regardless, contractions suck! The pitocin and the epi did their job and I was able to push DS out in a little under an hour. GL!
I waited on the epi. I was induced on Monday, the contractions were really manageable until Wednesday afternoon (I just wasn't dilating). At that point, they got very painful. I asked for an epi and the anesthesiologist was there in 10 minutes; 15 minutes later I no longer felt contractions.
I don't know whether they stopped the pit (I didn't think they did, but I wasn't really watching), but I know since I was in labor so long, they stopped the pit every morning so I could eat and shower and it didn't seem to hamper progress.
Personally I would wait because if it's how it was with me, you would be unable to walk or move for days until the baby makes his/her entrance (for me, she didn't arrive until Thursday - imagine being bedridden that whole time). And the contractions may not end up ever being that bad.
10 hrs after.
it ended in a c/s because of heart decel anyway.

Ditto for me. I didn't feel any pain at that point, but they recommended the epi b/c they were about to increase the pit to a high level. I did end up with a c/s after no progress. They turned off the pit when the baby's heartrate dropped. Very scary. Thankfully, all turned out fine in the end.
started pitocin at 6:30 pm monday, got the epi around 10am tuesday, i think?
i
I had the epi several hours after the pit started.
I planned to go natural, but had to be induced since my water broke and contractions didn't start 24 hours afterwards. So, they started pitosin and I got to 7.5cm and only then had the epidural - so I got the epi AFTER pitosin. It worked like magic, I had a totally wonderful birthing experience with zero negative emotions.
