I buy it. It is great for a fast diner. I do all types of pizza with it. The last on I made I roasted a bunch of fresh vegi's under the brolier for a few minutes with a bit of olive oil. I then just put a layer of sauce the vegi's and a layer of cheese.
I've used it a bunch of times. It's easy and the pizza tastes pretty good. I have to admit though that since I got a bread maker and am making my own, I will never buy it again. Nothing beats homemade.
1. Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water in a large bowl; let stand 5 minutes.
2.
Lightly spoon flour into dry measuring cups; level with a knife. Add 2
1/4 cups all-purpose flour, whole-wheat flour, oil, garlic powder,
pizza seasonings and salt to yeast mixture, stirring until
well-blended.
3. Turn dough out onto a floured surface.
Knead until smooth and elastic (about 10 minutes); add enough of
remaining flour, 1 tablespoon at a time, to prevent dough from sticking
to hands (dough will feel tacky).
4. Place dough in a large
bowl coated with cooking spray, turning to coat top. Cover and let rise
in a warm place (85?), free from drafts, 45 minutes or until doubled in
size. (Press two fingers into dough. If indentation remains, the dough
has risen enough.) Punch dough down; cover and let rest 5 minutes.
5.
Divide dough in half; roll each half into a 12-inch circle on a floured
surface. Top and bake according to recipe directions.
**Note:
You can prepare this in a stand mixer using the dough hook. Add all the
ingredients and let the hook knead the dough for approximately 5
minutes.
**Also, this dough may be frozen.
Follow directions for kneading dough, and shape dough into 2 balls.
Coat balls with cooking spray and place into a ziptop plastic freezer
bag. Thaw overnight in a refrigerator. Cover and let rise in a warm
place (85'), free from drafts' 1 1/2 hours or until doubled in size.
(Press two fingers into dough. If Indentation remains, the dough has
risen enough.) Shape as instructed.
**By trial
and error we've found for the crust we like (slightly crispy) we
preheat heat the oven to 400F, bake the pizza dough for 5 minutes, then
add our sauce, cheese, toppings and more cheese. Then, bake
approximately 15 more minutes until the cheese and melted and just ever
so slightly browned.
I love this stuff for a quick dinner. Nothing beats fresh of course, but when you have no time, this is awesome. I make it with roasted veggies, some cripsy pancetta and fresh mozarella (not the shredded kind, but the type that comes in balls). I also brush the crust with a little olive oil and garlic before cooking. YUM!
If you have a Trader Joe's grocery store by you, get their pizza dough ... it's THE BEST! And, you don't have to let it rise. It's only $1.19 and it's the best homemade pizza I've lever had! It's located right by their meats and cheeses.
Re: nbr: Has anyone tried the Pillsbury pizza dough?

it was great.
It's kinda meh.
I prefer making handmade dough - it's still cheap and comes out tons better.
We use it. We don't buy the thin crust kind though, because the dough makes a rather thin pizza as it is.
We have made cheese and pepperoni, and one with some veggies on it. They are quite good!
I use it to make calzones!
I prefer making my own for actual pizza, but this is so quick & easy.
Please excuse my ignorance for just a minute, but to make it a calzone do you just fold it in half and pinch the ends together before you bake it?
I used the Pilsberry Grands Buttermilk Biscuits for pizza dough.
I roll them out to make mini-pizzas or roll them out and press them together for a larger one.
I put corn meal under the crust and brush the top with olive oil and sometimes crushed garlic pieces.
The favorites on my house are:
shrimp with cilantro, garlic, cheese and sprayed with some tequila mixed with lime juice.?
Tomato, basil, garlic and Motzerella, brushed with olive oil, black pepper
Pepperoni and sweet onions with tomato sauce and cheese.
BBQ sauce, pulled chicken, pineapple and onions
Roasted peppers, carmelized onions, andouli sausage and tomato paste with a little cajun spice mixed in. ?(Use peanut oil for this one.)
?
yep!
Whole Wheat Herb Pizza Dough
I use the Trader Joes as well, it is better, only 99cents here in Philly.
For me it depends where i did the rest of my grocery shopping that week though.I had to do Pathmark this week so I got the Pillsbury.
