Now, I have done no research on this but two people I know were able to find out the gender of their baby as early as 7 wks. They paid something like $200, gave a small blood sample, and found out. I just don't ever hear about that, so I find it hard to believe. And medically, can it be that easy? Does anyone know about this?
Re: Very early gender determination?
And Tuesday gets even better.
There's a reason you don't hear about it.
why would anyone pay $200 to find out the gender at 7 weeks when you can just wait until the baby is ready and willing to show you for free. what's the rush? I want to find out but may wait until my 5th or so month. I want to enjoy the idea of a baby (no gender specific) first and then have another enjoyment of knowing what it is later in the pregnancy.
You should take that $200 and get your self something nice, no need to find out the gender until the doctor tells you.
Agreed, LOL.
It's beyond silly to even bother.
All they're doing is looking for "floating Y chromosomes" in maternal serum.
If they don't find it, they're either not catching any DNA from baby or it's a girl.
That doesn't exactly sound like a solid thing to me.
Why would YOUR blood indicate the baby's sex?
Please advise.
?
Actually, this is true... my mom asked me if my insurance would cover it. ?As did my SIL, of course her dad is a doctor so she gets whatever she wants done medically, so I had to inform her that there is no way my insurance would cover it. ?I don't know how it works, but I'll quote ?my mom, "There's a new blood test to find out the sex early, are you going to be able to get that?"
Don't knock it until you actually know facts. ?Just saying.?
Interesting.
meh, I shall wait until an ultrasound.
I'm using the word "solid" as in a reliable technique. If it were that reliable, it'd be mainstream. There's a reason we're still getting ultrasounds around 20wks to determine gender.
I saw it on the news. It's just like a pregnancy test. It's called "Blue or Pink" or something like that. You prick your finger and as early as 7 weeks it can determine the sex by detecting a male hormone in your blood. My husband keeps telling me to check into it, but I would rather just wait until 20 weeks to see. It's said that it's 90% effective.
It's true, though.
I don't know the?solidity??of it, but I agree on not spending that much cash on something you can find out in the 20wk u/s. ?I do think it is becoming more mainstream than we think. ?Of course something that just comes out won't be mainstream the day of... it will take a while.
Agreed. It should be interesting to see how it plays out. Same thing with the new Downs testing that's coming out "this spring", supposedly.
The bump says that the Chinese gender predictor tool is 90% effective, too. I'm going to bet on the two being equally accurate (yikes).
Ultrasound for me, thank you very much!

Mine too! For someone who is usually much better prioritizing expenses than me, he has actually suggested wasting $200 bucks on it. WTF?
Hey I needed a good smile... this is wrong on so many levels don't let me start. Let me just echo there is a reason you don't hear about it...
Few things wrong with the replies:
1. Finding a male hormone in mom's body means exactly nothing. Male hormone's course through women's blood, too, in varying concentrations.
2. Chromosomal sex doesn't necessarily mean the parts will match. Very rare, but it is totally possible to have an Xy FEMALE- infertile, of course, but when using the anatomy to determine sex, she looks like a female and is often raised that way until she ends up without a menstrual cycle and docs check her out. There are also cases where the baby will look like a female until puberty and then grow male parts (seriously- check it out, I think it's called "penis-at-12 syndrome" or something- common in a small Dominican population and also somewhere in a New York community).
3. Chromosomal sex determines gonadal sex which (through hormones) determines the pieces parts which determines behavior and gender. Variations are not uncommon and there can be a kink in the process at any step.
