No, talked about it with DD, but decided against it. But b/c I did the research and talked with reps- alot- I guess, they sent DD a cute book "Where is Baby's Belly Button" on her first b-day! SHe loves it- that alone made me want to give them business!

We're not banking, but we're considering donating. My m/w doesn't charge to collect it to donate, BUT she told us to really think hard because to collect it for donation, they have to cut it immediately, and our m/w practice prefers to let the cord stop pulsing before cutting it to help the baby get all the nutrients and antibodies and help prevent anemia in the baby.
So we're still debating which is the better thing to do...

Have you looked at all the benefits from banking??? I think they far outweigh cutting after pulsing.
We really wanted to donate it, but I got a couple tattoos last year, and you have to allow at least a year in between before they let you. So I won't qualify
We don't think we're going to. I researched it and found that its only really ever withdrawn in families where there is already a history of cancer etc, and there is nothing like that in either of our families. So we are going to donate instead.

I haven't yet done all the research on it that I want to do before we decide, but this is my thought as well -- that the baby should be the benefits of delayed cord cutting.
I'm pretty sure I would never bank. I would, however, consider donating. From what I understand, if you bank, only your child can use the blood, and the chances are that if your child had a disease where cord blood could help, that disease would also be present in the cord blood. If you donate, then your child can use cord blood from another child who does not have that disease. Seems better all around to me (not to mention the fact that you're potentially helping other kids even if your child never needs the blood).
With my history of cancer it's a definite for me but I haven't decided what company I'm going to use yet.
ETA: To those who think your DC is not at risk for some type of cancer because there's no history of it in your family - I was the first in my family, at age 17, and the doctors don't know why I got it. Not trying to scare you or be a downer, I just think it's important to know that it can happen, and without any known reason/cause.

We are leaning toward donating, but we aren't just jumping to that decision lightly given a family history of anemia already and trying to think about what is best for our son. Banking is not an option PLUS, if we go with the collection route, we'd prefer to donate it to ANYONE who would need it in hopes that someone would do the same when/if we needed it later.
www.thecordbloodregistrymom.com talks about CBR, the $250 discount code M5470 (no expiration and can be used by as MANY expectant Moms and Families as needed) and their payment plans..they offer interest free (in-house) and with interest (out of house) plans. Hope the information is helpful

About $4,000 in all 18 years together (this includes shipping and processing fees).
