Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Are you a different mom than you expected?

Are you a different kind of mother than you expected?

For example, I am considering being a SAHM for while (which I NEVER would have considered before, but it coincides with some time off to apply to grad school and I'm really happy about it).

And I'm also very excited to switch to cloth diapers - my first shipment arrives this week. Before having a baby I would never have considered cloth diapers either!

  • I am much more controlling than I thought I would be.  I thought I would be more laid back.

Ditto.  My parents (especially my Mom) laugh at me all the time b/c I jump the second I hear DD fuss or cry, and DD is as my Mom puts it "always held or being played with...she's never put down."

  • Yes!  I too never wanted to be a SAHM, but since DD was born I've cried almost daily at the thought of sending her to daycare.  Luckily today DH refigured our finances and now I'm able to do it!

DD will nap in bed with me sometimes (some days it's the only way she'll nap!) and before we had her I thought letting kids sleep in your bed was a sin.

I'm also surprised that I'm kind of thinking that going back to work wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.  We'll see . . .

  • I'm actually more patient than I thought I would be... and more affection than I thought I would be. ?Baby slobbers were gross before I had a baby of my own! LOL ?I love to kiss him on those slobbery baby lips!
  • I am actually way more laid back than I thought I would be.  I do have anxiety issues with SIDS (see post above) and am always worried about her health, but I'm quite calm with her and have no problems letting other people take care of her while I'm at work or going out with DH to dinner, etc.
  • i thought i would be a neurotic mess.

im much more laid back, very confident in my "mothering" skills, and patient that I thought i would ever be.  like the pp said, i do get very anxious about SIDS.  i love when other people hold him (but i also love when he starts crying out for me and looking around for me when someone else is holding him)

  • I'm more attached than I imagined I could be - Even with 20 weeks of leave, I'm still having trouble thinking about going back to work! I also fully intended to use our bassinet and crib (eventually), but he has slept next to me every single night since day 1 in the hospital, and I don't have any deadline for stopping. I'm also pleasantly surprised at how easy breastfeeding has been for us, and how he's thrived on it.

Exactly what I was going to say. :) I was afraid to hold babies before I had mine, now I say "Bring on the babies!"

  • 100% for sure. It started with the pregnancy..I used to say that I wanted the epidural before I even left home in labor! Then I slowly leaned toward natural birth...before baby, I didn't care what I used for soap or anything, and I thought I'd use Johnson & Johnson on her- nope...now I check safe cosmetics before getting anything for her. Also, we cosleep, cloth diaper, we use a moby and an ergo at times- every time I turn more "crunchy", he jokingly says, "Oh, my God...we're freakin' hippies"
