Hi there! I browse over here from time to time because while I love BOTB and GP, I sometimes feel so much older than everyone over there. I turned 38 last week. I have been married for a year and a half and have two stepdaughters (ages 8 and 10). DH and I have been trying to get pregnant for 6 cycles with good timing. I chart and use OPK's.
Today I called the doctor because I just feel like time is not on my side here! They were so nice and are getting me in on Wednesday. The upsetting thing that happened is that my doctor is no longer delivering babies. He is going to see me on Wednesday (not sure what he'll do) and then "when" I get pregnant, he'll refer me to someone else. I was so surprised. I really like this guy-he's been my doctor for 14 years. I really didn't want to have to go start from scratch with a new doc and wait months just to get in, so I am really glad that he'll at least talk to me. I told them that I've been charting, etc. and the nurse said to bring them with me. I am nervous about something being wrong. It's my huge irrational fear that I've had since before we began trying for a baby.
What should I expect from this visit? Does anyone have any helpful info or advice? I am nervous but excited to talk to a professional about what else I could/should be doing. TIA.
Liz
Re: 6 Months - Doc visit
Hi there!
I am 37 and having been ttc for a year. I got pregnant very easily in my eary twenties but ended in m/c. I wish this time around was as easy! My obgyn does basic fertility testing and ordered cd 3 blood work, HSG and SA for hubby. I think bringing your charts are a good start too. I most likely will get referred to an RE soon. My DH will be doing the SA probably in the next two weeks so we will see. Good luck to you! I was nervous too but am glad I did the testing.
Good luck to you! ?Your doctor will most likely do some bloodwork (and according to your ticker, it may be perfect timing for it!) ?He will probably order an HSG test to check your tubes for blockages and your uterus for any abnormalities. ?Your DH should be prepared for a semen analysis. ?Just because he made babies years ago doesn't mean that things are still the same!
Changing doctors is rough! ?I can understand why you are bummed. ?Take advantage of this appointment to ask lots of questions!?
Hi Liz,
I'm at the end of my 6th cycle trying too and also called yesterday to make my first doc appt about it. I went straight to RE. Time is an issue as you know, so I wanted to go straight to the experts. I also wanted to make sure I wasn't dealing with being told, "You should have had a baby earlier". I know that and I think the REs are more understanding.
I am terrified of finding out that I have something major wrong or that my eggs are too old, but I'm also excited about the prospect of finding something that can be fixed and getting pregnant. My appt is March 5th, please let me know how you appt goes and what all they tell you.
