Does anybody know the actual law on cloth diapers at daycare? We're weeks away from switching dd to daycare downtown. When I toured nearly two years ago, they said cloth was accepted but they would provide disposable. We went back for a second tour last week and this time they said that cloth is not allowed and that it is due to a state regulation. I have heard this from daycares but find it hard to believe that it's that simple. There is a daycare center downtown that does only cloth (that they provide) and the daycare that we're currently in, agreed to accommodate cloth (reluctantly).
I'm following up with them with an explanation of how cloth diapers are as simple as disposable, they won't need to modify their process (other than dispose of the diaper in a wetbag instead of the garbage,etec). And, basically pleading with them to allow us to give it a trial run.
I've heard this argument about it being against state regulations but can't find what exactly the regulation is. Does it say flat out no cloth? no shaking poop? no soaking? what? Just curious if anybody knows so I have a better idea of what I'm up against.
Re: WS daycare and cloth diaper regulations - anybody know what they are?
I think they have to wear gloves and wrap each diaper individually, no shaking or anything and dispose of it in a waste recepticle.
The daycare we are looking at will do cloth, you just have to unwrap and deal with all your dirty diapers in the evening.
Here from the other post...
Yeah, unless something has changed in the last few months, that information is false. There are plenty of daycares in WA state that do cloth... I talked to many of them and a lot of them were interested and willing to do cloth. Currently, I am staying home, so I dont know if things have changed, but my guess is that they just dont want to deal with cloth.
Ask them to show you the law or at least tell you where to find that law.
ETA: I just found the following law- unless there is an amendment that I did not find, they are lying to you.
WAC 170-296-1090 What are the requirements for diapers and diaper changing areas? (1) You must separate diaper changing areas from areas where food is stored, prepared or served.
(2) There must be a sink for handwashing close to the diaper changing area with running hot and cold water. This sink must not be used for food preparation and clean up.
(3) You must have a sturdy, easily cleanable structure, or mat with a nonabsorbent surface for diaper changing. If you use a mat it must be large enough to prevent the surface underneath from becoming contaminated with bodily fluids.
(4) You and your staff must wash hands before and after diapering each child.
(5) You and your staff must maintain contact with the child being diapered at all times while changing diapers.
(6) For cleaning children, you must:
(a) Use either disposable towels or clean cloth towels that have been washed and sanitized between each use; and
(b) Assist a child in handwashing, after changing the diaper.
(7) You and your staff must place the diaper, without rinsing, directly into a waste container (used only for soiled diapers) that has a tight cover, is lined with a disposable plastic trash bag, and is within arm's reach of the diaper changing area.
(8) You and your staff must use:
(a) Disposable diapers;
(b) A commercial diaper service;
(c) Reuseable diapers supplied by the child's family; or
(d) Washable training pants.
(9) You and your staff must clean and sanitize (one tablespoon chlorine bleach per quart of cool water) diaper changing areas between each use or you must use a nonabsorbent, disposable covering that you discard after each use.
