Seborrheic Dermatitis...she has it :(

Anyone else dealing with this? It gets real bad when she rubs her face into my chest b/c she's so itchy :( We saw the pedi today and she said we could use some cortisone and that it will go away by 4 months. Her pretty little face is just covered with red splotches! Anyone else deal with this?

  • yep, we had those itchy patches with the yellow crust, but they seemed to get a little better with some aquaphor and time.  but my poor baby is still constantly scratching his face & rubbing his face on my clothes/chest/shoulder/tummytime mat.  we started a steroid foam for his eczema :(, and supposedly i can use it on his face, but i'm wary of doing that too much, or for too long.  whenever i take a shower when DH is home, i give baby a "facial" - bring him into the bathroom to steam (he sits on bouncy chair), then i wipe his face with moist cotton balls, then a layer of aquaphor.  seems to help.

  • Our pedi had us use 1% hydrocortisone cream 2x daily that you can find OTC on the red patches on his face and it worked like a charm. Its completely clear now and even more importantly, he doesn't wake himself up scratching himself. He's MUCH happier now.?

  • mine has it too. the dr gave us a Rx for a topical antibiotic and recommended aveeno and aquaphor on it. some days it looks worse. we keep mittens on when he's scratching a lot and swaddle at night to prevent further irritation to this nasty cycle. he's had it one week and it's so sad. i want to wait till it's looking better to get professional pics done!
  • YES!!  I posted about this on Saturday.  It started when he was about 6 weeks old but I never did anything about it because I just thought it was really severe baby acne.  His face and ears are covered.  I just started hydrocortisone cream 2 days ago and there is already a significant improvement.  As much as I didn't want to use a steriod cream on his face, I've been told that it's really the only treatment that will get rid of it, and his is really bad.  I am also going to pick up some aquaphor next time I'm out and use this too.  You can only use the hydrocortisone cream a couple times a day for a maximum of 7 days.  I hope it totally clears by then.
