POLL: Did your water break? And where?

Just chatting last night with a few mom friend about labor starting, etc.  So many different stories about amniotic fluid leaking/breaking/or staying in tact.  Just curious about The Nesties experiences.

Feel free to share your story... I'd love to hear it!!  (As I sit her  contemplating putting on of baby's Ultimate Crib Sheets on *MY* bed!!) ;)

Re: POLL: Did your water break? And where?

  • Mine broke while I was sleeping - it woke me up. It was not gushing (not even close), but I was soaking pads.... =]

  • Mine broke at home, 2 weeks before my due date, when I got up to pee at about midnight.  I never contracted on my own and had to be induced once we went to the hospital.

  • My water broke at home when I was trying to use the bathroom.
  • Laboring on the couch at home, sitting on towels.  The cat and I both heard it pop.  LOL  No fluid until I stood up.

DH lined a path to the bathroom with towels for me.  Hehehe...

  • My bag never broke on it's own with any of the 4 kids.  The Dr always had to break it for me.  With Laci I actually had 2 water bags that they had to break......it was weird!
  • Mine broke right after I got my epidural, before I had a chance to lay down.
  • Mine broke during a pretty intense contraction right as the nurse  decided to check my dilation.  Poor woman.  It gushed...felt like I was peeing but couldn't stop. Such a trippy feeling.

Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

  • Mine broke in bed, and it was the one place I did not want it to break as we had a pretty new (sleep number, not cheap!) mattress. Same damn thing happened with my miscarriage, actually.

But it wasn't bad, I rolled over, felt a trickle - thought hmmm, I should probably use the restroom and when I got up, I knew what was going on. Still had time to run to the bathroom and the gushing happened over the toilet.

  • Mine broke twice at home (33w5d and 36w6d) both as I was getting out of bed to go to the bathroom.  Good thing for me that I had a waterproof pad on the bed already- both times.  (I wound up with a slow leak and bedrest for the in-between times)  At 36w6d the contractions then started immediately- hard, fast, strong.  Bean was here 4 hours later!

  • Mine broke at home at 6am.  I knew about the pop and it actually was what woke me up and I instantly ran to the bathroom with fluid streaming down my thighs!  It was scary but exciting, I knew what was ahead Wink.
  • My water broke at 1:30am while i was sleeping in bed. It was only a small trickle, but definitely knew what was up. It didn't really "gush" until I stood up and had to start walking...so definitely had to have the pads on when going to the hospital.
  • I started leaking amniotic fluid before I went to the hospital. My water broke on its own at the hospital. It was such a weird sensation!
  • Mine was done at the hospital. A little bit after I had gotten the epi, a nurse was doing some paperwork in my room and she was like, 'oh hey, has your water broken yet?' I said no and joked with her that I was disappointed that I didn't have my big "OMG my water has broken!" moment.
  • I was up reaallyy late reading after a nice dinner out (4 days till due date) at a fondue restaurant with DH, boss and BFF.  I had just turned out the lights at 4ish and climbed into bed...and heard a LOUD pop a few minutes later in the dark.  I jumped out of bed and ran the 3 steps to the tile bathroom before I gushed, and boy did it gush :)  I got to do the classic, "honey, I think it's time" lol

No pain whatsoever, we took our time showering and getting ready.

  • contractions started around 1AM, and my water didn't break till around 11AM, we left for the hospital at noon.  BUT... I didn't know my water had broken (well i did but i didn't), I had been dealing with mucus plugs and bloody shows, and for some reason due to the exhaustion, excitement, pain of the whole event up to that point, I didn't know there was anything new or huge about the 2 or 3 tbsp of moisture in my undies, actualy i did notice it was odd, and I noticed it was tinged green, but was in too much pain to mention it to anyone or to remember that it had even happened. I was just happy to be going to the hospital at that point....I kind of just forgot.

it was only around 10 minutes till I delivered that they realized I had meconium in my fluid and my water had broken a long time ago but babies head had stopped it like a cork. she had to have her lungs vaccumed out for a good long time after delivery due to the meconium. ick.

if we knew my water had broken, I would have been admitted immediatly to the hospital, instead I had to wander the room the gave me for about 2 hours before I was dialated far enough to be "oficially" checked in. and I was in pain. I was unprepared for how frequent and painful my contractions would be.  and they were frequent and painful from the get go. I had very little downtime at all between them. no one warned me about that one!

I'm still not ready for number 2, and this poll made me remember a good bit why.

  • Mine broke in the hospital when I was about 6+cm.

I started leaking fluid though about 10am that morning.... at the OB's office. We knew we'd be seeing each other at the hospital within days at that point :)

  • Can you tell us more about these magic sheets?! AND... how exciting!
  • 2 out of the 3 at hospital by dr. With Taya the nurse was about to pop it when it broke on its own.

  • I had a slow leak that healed it self.  The dr. broke my water at the hospital when I was around 7cm.
  • I had an induction and mine broke on it own in the hospital. It was a gushing and I was glad that it did not happen in my bed! My Dh was super skeeved at it possibly happening in our bed.
  • Mine broke on it's own in the hospital. (but I had a waterproof crib liner under my sheets at home just in case!) It broke while I was sleeping. I felt a "pop" and wasn't sure if it was my water or not. Ran to the bathroom and got a medium sized gush there.

Then my bag of waters moved and re-sealed and was artifically ruptured shortly before pushing. It didn't hurt at all, but that's when the big gushes came.

Ditto.  HUGE gushes for me- pads couldn't keep up!

  • mine broke while i was sitting on the toliet : ) I was peeing and heard a pop, I thought wow this could be my water breaking, and just sat there for second. Nothing happend then i stood up and wooosh, very crazy feeling.

  • I chose "Broke at home" because w/ K it happened in the middle of the night - I started leaking.

But with B the Dr popped it while I was in labor.?
