Trying to Get Pregnant

Ovarian Cysts

Hi All,, I found out in November '08 that I have an ovarian cyst on my right ovary. I had a fibroid removed in 2007 and now have this to deal with all the while my DH and I are trying to get pregnant. I had an ultrasound in January and the cyst was 5cm.... my OB said no need to remove it now and I have been praying like a maniac that it goes away on its own..I have even started going to acupuncture with hope that will help.

Just curious to see who else has dealt with this when trying to get PG? I am so stressed that this thing is getting bigger.... and don't know what to do as far as how long to wait or needing it removed? I know I have had cysts in the past that have ruptured (which is not fun) but this one seems to be a stubborn thing. My DR says its safe to continue trying to get PG, but I still worry its causing a problem. I am getting an HSG test next month to check for any blockages/scar tissue, so hopefully that comes out clean. My DH is also going to get checked out to rule out any serious issues. Any advise would be greatly appreciated... thanks!

  • I have no experience with this but wanted to say that I"m sorry to hear that you're going through this.

  • I have many many cysts on my ovaries.  As long as you are ovulating, I don't think it has any affect on your ability to get PG.  If your dr. says you're fine, you're fine.

  • Hi tinkerbell,

I am actually having surgery next month to remove cysts in each ovary. I have a 9cm one in my left ovary and a 5cm one in my right one. My Dr. told me I was at risk for torsion which could result in the death of the ovary, so we needed to get them out. I also have not been ovulating at all becuase both ovaries are affected. So hopefully this surgery will make it so that I can ovulate again! if your Dr. is not worried about torsion, then I see no problem with waiting it out. I waited for 6 months after mine was discovered to see if they woudl go away on their own, unfortunately mine just got bigger :(

Hopefully your cyst disapears on it's own! My Dr. says that a majority of them do. I was just unlucky.

  • I seem to be ovulating since the ovulation kits say that I am... but after 9 months of trying... still not pregnant. :o(

It tends to hurt more close to my period... which I am assuming is normal? I have a call into my DR to see what she says about that. I just really hope this thing goes bye-bye on its own.

  • I have dealt with ovarian cysts for years. I found out in October that I had two hemorrhaging cysts on my left ovary that were each 3 cm. My follow up in January showed that they're getting smaller but still holding on. My Dr. didn't seem too concerned when I asked about then effecting TTC. We're on our 6th month.

That doesn't mean much. You can get positive results on those tests and not be ovulating. I'd still check with your Dr.

Sorry you're dealing with this. :(

Ovulation kits measure lutenizing hormone, which is the hormone that makes the mature egg pop out. ?You can have a surge of this hormone without actually ovulating. ?Have you tried charting? ?Charting consists of taking your temperature at the same time every morning after three hours of uninterrupted sleep. You plot your temperature, along with the kind of cervical mucous (discharge) you have for the day and some other, optional stuff. After a while, you'll be able to see a pattern-- a thermal shift (hopefully). When your temperatures rise and stay higher, that means you ovulated just before that thermal shift. Charting does not predict ovulation, but rather confirms it after it happens. That way, you're able to look back and see if you timed intercourse appropriately. The best time to have sex is the two days before ovulation and the day of ovulation, but sperm *can* survive for several days in ideal conditions. If charting sounds like something you'd like to do, go to https://www.fertilityfriend.com?

I am sure it will...good luck! Try not to think about it. I also had one last summer and it went away in like a month.
