TTC after 35

11 months...and no baby

I am turning 35 in just a few days.  We are currently on our 11th month of trying.  I am so frustrated and sad.  We conceived our first child easily and quickly.  I am so thankful, and so in love with him.  But, we really, really want him to have a sibling to love.  Our son is just about 2 years old.  I am really beginning to fear that this may not happen for us.

At my last annual with my OB, she said not to worry, and not to even come in and see her until it's been a year.  Well, it's about that time.  I'm scared to hear that something may be wrong.  I just don't understand how we conceived so early last time, and now it's so hard.  Has anyone else had an issue like this?  I've also noticed that I have lots of spotting, for 4-6 days before my period arrives.  I don't know if this has anythiing to do with my problems either.

I'm sorry to vent to you ladies.  I'm really just a lurker here.  But, I've always noticed how supportive and understanding you are on this board.  So, thanks for listening.

Re: 11 months...and no baby

  • I'm sorry to hear you are feeling really down.  I am fairly new to TTC, but I can't believe how much it is already playing with my emotions.  There are so many success stories of people who took a long time to conceive and I am sure it will happen for you again too.  Maybe making the appointment with your OB will actually make you feel a little better.  Although it is possible she might find something wrong, most likely she won't and you will feel better knowing it is just a matter of time.  Or, maybe she will find something, but it will be easy to fix.  At least you will get some answers.  Have you gone on the Secondary IF board?  They may be helpful too.  Good luck!!

  • It may be scary to hear that something is wrong, but there is so much that they can do to help that it's totally worth it to go through different tests especially if you'd like to have a second child.

  • I know it's scary to go through the testing, but as pp said there is so much they can fix and work with once you know what you are up against. ?35 is still fairly young. ?I am 39 and have been trying for 17 cycles!

The spotting could be caused by any number of things. ?I used to have spotting for a couple of days before AF due to polyps. ?Now that I have had them removed, no more spotting. ?It may be that simple!

I know it's super frustrating. ?Good luck to you!!!?

  • We are in the same boat.  I will be 40 in two weeks though.  After having a missed m/c, we concieved our daughter pretty easily/quickly.  Now the second time around it is very frustrating.  I did consult a fert. specalist and it was very overwhelming.  I don't know if we will go through the testing or not, but I will be talking to my reg. OB next month at my anual to see what he thinks is the best action to take.

FYI...there is a Secondary IF board also.  You might find it very supportive to be there.

    <------------Check it out.

  • Definitely check out the Secondary IF board - very encouraging.  I was 35 when daughter was born and now at 38, the OB discovered I was not ovulating - my hormones apparently never got back to what they were. So, now I'm on Clomid and it is making me ovulate on the lowest dosage so you never know, it could be an easy fix that will hopefully lead to baby #2.  At 35, you have time on your side in my opinion.  I have had spotting as well but so far, it has not been of concern to the dr.  I hope you find some answers or a BFP soon but know you are not alone!
  • Thank you so much everyone!  Your encouraging words really did make me feel better.  I am definitely going to check out the Secondary IF board.  I hope the ladies are as nice over there as you have all been.

    Thanks again.

  • It took us 11 months to conceive, so it takes longer when we're older. Spotting before your period could mean low progesterone. I think for you it's time to get a fertilty workup. Your ob/gyn can send you for bloodwork, an HSG and your husband for an SA. At least after that you can see if there are any issues and go from there. GL!

  • I feel the same way. I'm 37. It took us a year to get pregnant with Joseph, and I know we've only been trying for a couple months, but there's just something so heartrending about getting your period and knowing that it is a lost chance for something you wanted so much.
