2nd Trimester

What is your biggest fear....

about labor?

Just wondering.

DH and everyone else gets mad at me, but my is not the pain or that something will go wrong.... I am afraid I will poop on the table. I know that its normal and the hospital staff will think nothing of it, but I will. I have IBS, I hate poop! I don't want to poop on the table... it that sooo wrong?!

Re: What is your biggest fear....

  • You're worrying about the wrong poop.

You shouldn't worry about pooping on the table during delivery. What you should worry about it taking your first post-partum poop after the baby is born. OMG, that was ten times worse than the baby being born.  It was the most frightening 10 minutes of my life. Make sure you take some stool softeners beforehand.

  • i would say my worst fear is that something could go wrong with the baby... i could care less about pooping. if i have to poop to have a healthy child, then poop i shall.
  • I personally don't care if I poop during labor or not. My fears are more along the lines of having an extremely long labor, getting really bad tears, or something going wrong during labor.

  • one of my best girlfriends just had her baby on friday and i was in her room while she was in labor and i just had to ask her nurse... "sooo... do people poop on the table often?  because i have to be honest... it's my biggest fear."  and she said, "yes - people poop often but you can NOT let it be your biggest fear.  in fact - our biggest fear as nurses are people who's biggest fear is pooping on the table.  we've seen far worse.  we wisk it away fast, you may not even know you've done it.  but if you're scared you are going to poop, you don't push right and you labor will be harder and longer.  so just push... hard... like you have to poop."

good insight.  thanks L&D nurse. :)  LOL.  oh - and sidenote... my girlfriend pooped TWICE!  LOLOLOLOL!  and she didnt' even care. :)

My "mentor" as I like to call her warned me about this as well. She said its awful.

You're so lucky! No one told me and it was never mentioned in the 100 or so baby books I read while pregnant!

Luckily she has no problem with telling me the honest truth. She told me about ripping and all the scary stuff that no one ever mentions about childbirth. She definitely opened my eyes!

  • I have a million!

I fear my mom will be pushy and start an argument when she realizes I meant it when I told her she can NOT be in the delivery room.

I fear my hubby not making it....he always accidently turns his cell phone off. We argue about it almost daily.

I fear something bad will happen to the baby.

I fear I wont be able to breastfeed.

Pooping though....not so much. If thats the worst that happens, cool.

I could care less if I poop on the table, come on, it's all just going to be nasty anyways.  This second type of poop terrifies me.  Mostly, I am afraid of the epidural running out or not working.

  • I'm with ya on the pooping during delivery.....I have IBS too. You'd think that would make us immune to caring, why is it the opposite?

Yeah, I had a couple stitches down there and every time the nurses came in to check on me, they would ask, "Have you made a bowel movement yet?" And I kept looking at DH saying, "WTF? Why are they so concerned about my bowel movements?"

    I soon learned why. Indifferent

  • I also fear pooping during labor, or farting or anything associated with the issue.  But I have irrational poop fears normally anyway.  I would say complications with the baby or myself though would outweigh that.  I realize that in the moment I probably won't care if I drop *ss, but it's still something I worry being really embarrassed about.

  • I'm afraid I'm not going to get there in time to have an epidural, or that when I do get the epidural I will have back problems for the rest of my life because of it. (A couple of ppl I know have issues because of the epi).

    Ditto.  This is me.

  • My biggest fear other than something being wrong with the baby is that I will go into labor at work.  I know the contractions happen long before my water breaks and I will probably be at the hospital by the time it happens... but I just do not want to go into labor at work.
  • i would say my worst fear is that something could go wrong with the baby... or the pain ...i could care less about pooping.
  • When my bff had her first I was there, and saw her poop on the table.  1) the nurse didn't bat an eye and whisked it away immediately.  If I hadn't been looking there right at that moment I would have missed it.  2) it didn't gross me out at all.  What was disturbing was watching her get the epidural later on- needle in spine eeek!  3) bff didn't notice, and I know she wouldn't have cared if she did- she had other things on her mind.

My biggest fear is that I won't be able to take the pain and will want an epidural- from the aforementioned viewing experience, I know I'll be really scared the whole time its being inserted.  Of course, I probably won't care at that point :)
