Pantene - you've done me wrong

NE1 experience a waxy buildup when using Pantene shampoo?

I used it on vacation b/c I had a travel size, and had a few good hair days, and continued to use it when I got back, and now my hair is awful. ?

Can you tell me how to get it out, and get my hair healthy again?

What do you use for shampoo? ??

Re: Pantene - you've done me wrong

  • pantene is REALLY bad for that. i used the paul mitchell clarifying shampoo (i think it is called shampoo 3?) to get the build up out of my hair, but i am sure there are other ways too.

  • I have had that prob with pantene in the past.  I've heard this happens with drugstore brands a lot, from a stylist once (may or may not be a good source, lol!)

    This is my fav shampoo:https://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=21408795

I use the conditioner every couple days, too .... this is the smaller sample size, and then there's a bigger 8 oz jar, and it comes in a few different scents.

  • Oh, rinse with vinegar and let it soak for a few minutes ... that should get build up out.
  • Ditto the vinegar.  We call Pantene "Wax in a Bottle" in my house because of that issue.  Blech.

  • I used to hang out on some hair boards and I remember a lot of people complaining about Pantene. I think the build-up is caused by the panthenol in it. Baking soda is good for clarifying. Just make a paste with water or mix it with regular shampoo.
  • I thought  Pantene was very non-EF/green.

  • I've always heard this about Pantene too, and most drugstore brands.  But I've always used Pantene and my hairstylist always comments on healthy my hair is, she still doesn't believe that's the shampoo I use... but I never have build up, and its always soft and shiny.

Ironically, every EF brand I've ever tried weighs my hair down and/or makes my scalp break out???

yep - sometimes I don't use EF items. ?I got burned.?

I have the EF product/scalp break out product too ... which is why I didn't recommend anything.  I've yet to find something I love. :(

  • Herbal Essence makes a "Degunkify" shampoo. Seems to work pretty well, but I wouldn't use it on a daily basis. Only when you need to get a lot of crap out of your hair. Also, even though it dries my hair out, regular Suave gets the gunk out too. Could try those.
