Possibly moving to Chicago, any opinions?

DH and I have been wanting to move, anywhere really. We found what seems to be a good deal on a house in Englewood, but we don't know anything about the area. I am just looking for honest opinions on what you think of the area, etc.

Re: Possibly moving to Chicago, any opinions?

  • Really, Englewood??  Unfortunately, Englewood is one of the worst neighborhoods in Chicago for violence and crime.  It is not a good area.  I have lived in Chicago my entire life and it is a wonderful city, so much offer.  What are your needs in your move?  Have a job in any certain area?  You may consider a move to a close suburb, they are so many.  We live in Elk Grove Village, just west of Chicago, bordering O'Hare airport and we LOVE it here, great school district and so much to do with your family here.  Let me know if you have any other questions about neighborhoods and the area.

  • Wifey11803 summed Englewood up very well. There are several inexpensive areas (especially with the housing market) in the chicago suburbs that are much safer places to raise a family.

Good luck house hunting & if you do move to chicago be sure to bundle up...there is no comparison to NM & IL weather.

  • Don't move to Englewood. If you do move to the Chicagoland area be ready for awful cold winters. I've never gotten used to the winters and I've lived here my whole life. It's 17 degrees right now. BRRR.
  • Check out anywhere in DuPage County, great schools

  • DO NOT MOVE TO ENGLEWOOD!!!? There are shootings there just about everday. It is very dangerous.? If you want to live in the city there are great neighborhoods.? We live in Lakeview and love it.? I grew up in Downers Grove which is great if you are looking for a suburb,??

  • I so agree with everyone else about Englewood. NOT where you want to be. But, the other locations that have been in the suburbs. If you want to be in the city. There are other wonderful neighbordhoods, such as Hyde Park, South Loop, Bronzeville, West Loop. And based off of the market you should definitely be able to find some good buys. Good luck.

  • I was born and lived in Wrigleyville for a few years. Pretty decent area (especially of you're a Cubs fan). I live about 2 hours away now and recommend suburbs if you're not into extreme city living,
