If so, how do you do it? We dont' have any yard waste, so I hate the idea of putting food scraps in there and getting the bin all grody and having it sit there just asking for raccoons to come knock it over for dinner. Plus, since yard waste pick up is only every other week now, it seems gross to have food scraps sitting around for 2 weeks at a time.
So tell me, what is your system?
Re: NBR: Do you recycle food waste?
We have one of those countertop pails with the filter in the lid (ours is stainless) and they sell bags at places like storeables that are compostable plastic (made from corn?) that we use to line the pail so it doesn't get grody. We put the contents in our compost pile but the bag can just as easily go in yard waste. Before we did that, I kept a large zip-loc in the freezer and tossed scraps in there, emptying it into the compost pile when it got full.?
Some of those plastic salad greens containers are actually made from corn and biodegradable; I've kept them and used them in the freezer the same way. You could use those to put out stuff in the yard waste bin mess-free.?
We have a green tub under our sink that food waste goes into but we also have worms in the garage that eat most of our food waste. They don't get citrus or meat though... that goes into the yard waste bin. It's not for everyone but it's easy to do and we've had them for about 5 years now.
Our outdoor yard waste tub is huge and the racoons we have around here don't bother it thankfully. Have they bothered yours?
