Asher is the name of a lovable character from The Giver. They say in the book that the name means playful, and I adore it as a name. DH hates it, and even vetoed it for our dog. :-(

I think the name means Happy. It's in the bible. I think it's one of the 12 tribes of Israel. Years ago I wanted my boy name ot be Asher David. Now I know a few people who named their boy Asher. it's a great name.

Asher was the name of our photographer (female) when we did the canopy tour in Costa Rica...it fit her, definitely sounds like a free spirit.

I've always liked Asher. It's Hebrew, one of the sons of Jacob was named Asher. Jacobs wives had good taste, out of 12 sons I would actually consider 6 of the names.
