Re: for mamas planning on going natural...

  • Deep chest breathing in the beginning and when it starts to get bad,  I will most likely head to the shower or tub with DH.  I have been taking extra long showers these past few weeks and just breathing and concentrating on how the water feels on my body. Granted,  I am not in any pain when I do this, but I am hoping it will condition me mentally to focus on that and nothing else.

  • I won't know what will feel good until I'm actually in labor...but some things I can think of are a birthing ball, hot shower and/or tub, DH putting pressure on my back, switching positions frequently...
  • We went to a birthing class last weekend and I think I'm going to go with imagery and music, since I don't like to be touched or talked to while I'm in pain, I figured this would be the best choice
  • I got to 6-7cm with my DD and I'm sure it gets a lot worse from that point, but what helped me through the more painful contractions was distracting myself: I'd name a TV character whose name started with each letter of the alphabet (Alex from "Grey's," Becky from "Roseanne," etc.) or whatever, and that helped keep me calm.
  • For my first, I refused to get an epidural because I'm one of those people who is like "we were made to do this." So...my midwife gave me back massages. I had music playing, aromatherapy, a birthing ball, cool cloths on my forehead and just deep, controlled breaths. When it got to the point that I actually wanted drugs, my midwife told me to wait, I was doing good. I thought maybe ten minutes had gone by by the time I asked again and really it had been a few hours so when I DEMANDED the drugs, my midwife said "forget it...it's time to push." And then out came the baby. =]

I still won't get an epidural this time...but I may go ahead and do drugs. I do know that the longer you put it off, the better as your second dose is less effective. At least that's what I've been told by the dr.

    Don't scare yourself...you'll do fine.

  • Oh and I'll have DH remind of of why I want to go natural and all of the bad things that can go wrong with an epidural.
  • thanks for all your advice i will keep it in mind....=)
  • Just like last time, whatever my body wants to do.  I also won't be delivering in a hopsital this time, getting in the damn hospital bed last time made the contrax 10 times worse.  I suggest laboring at home as long as possible.  I have my last birth story in my bio and I think I put how I dealt with the contrax last time.

  • I'm going to try heat or maybe the tub for some relief. When I was in false labor last Friday, I got into the bath when I got home and it felt like heaven on Earth. Being confined to a bed is HELLLL
  • I'm planning on going natural, but the pain isn't what I'm most afriad of, it's the doc cutting me, and then stitching me back up...  just makes me freak to think of that.
