Babies: 0 - 3 Months

waking up in a panic?

DH and I have done this multiple times, where one of us wake up, thinking we had the baby with us and are tearing the sheets apart looking for Adam. The odd thing is we've never had him in our room, we've never had him bed with us so I don't know where this is coming from. Are we the only odd balls?

Re: waking up in a panic?

  • No, you're not alone.  That and similar things have happened to me.  Not to DH, though, that I know of.

  • i used to breastfeed in bed but the baby never slept in bed with us. i used to wake up all the time freaked out that she was in my arms or in bed with us and she was in her bouncy seat next to the bed. it happened for the first few weeks to me. it is the weirdest, freakiest feeling.
  • I do the same thing, its so scary!

  • My DH was snoring one night and I told him to roll on his side.  He wouldn't do it and then he yelled at me "What about the baby" and I realized he was holding his pillow on his belly and thought it was the baby.  I woke him up and showed him it was only the pillow and the baby was in his swing.  Cracked me up though but I thought it was so cute that he was so caring to his pillow.

  • We did it for a few weeks.  DH would actually be stroking the sheets like he was rubbing her head until I said she was asleep in the pnp.

  • Yes!  The first few weeks we both did it multiple times every night.  Now it only happens maybe once a night. I sleep with a pillow between my legs and I always wake up thinking it is dd or she's in the pillow case.  It is such a scary feeling!  I have to have the tv on when I do middle of the night feedings or I'm afraid I'll fall asleep.
  • OMG, I do the same thing almost every night.  I usually think DS is wrapped in our balnkets or stuck in our duvet cover.  It is awful.

  • I have woken up numerous times in a panic as well looking for baby and we have never had her sleep in the bed with us. So strange. I also wake up and have to run over to PNP to make sure she is still breathing since she hadn't been making her usual noises.
  • I wake up often in a panic.  Usually, if I have fallen into a decent sleep between feedings I wake up panicking and check to make sure he's breathing.  The other day I woke up and thought that I forgot to feed him.  I remembered he was crying to be fed but I forgot that I actually fed him.  I attributed it to sleepiness.  I have also paniced that I've dropped him while bf-ing becuase of the tiredness.  I now make DH wake up and talk to me while I'm nursing him.  It's scary stuff sometimes!

  • I'm glad to hear we aren't alone! DH and I learned when the other one is freaking out we have to say Adam is in his CRIB not his bed. DH said that he was in his bed the one night and I flipped out even more looking on our bed for him! I wonder if this won't happen when we have DC #2?
  • so glad i don't feel like a freak anymore!
  • OH MY GOSH!  I have done this about every other night and DS doesn't sleep with us either.  I have no idea where it came from, but I always feel so stupid when I realize that I am digging through our sheets!
